Skyhawks Rally to a 4-4 Tie

Boxscore

Bridgewater, Mass. - Stonehill rallies, down 4-2 in the second period, to escape with a 4-4 tie against Salve Regina on Saturday at the Bridgewater Ice Arena. In front of a packed audience, the Skyhawks put together 65:00 minutes of team hockey in the impressive, come-from-behind contest.

The first period began as a defensive struggle as both teams remained scoreless until late.  A marker off the stick of Salve Regina's Brandt Nelson staked the Seahawks an early 1-0 led.

The advantage would be short lived however as Stonehill's James Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.) would drill home a power play score of his own just minutes later.  Florentino's marker, assisted by John Durkin (Scituate, Mass.), would end the first period 1-1.

Senior Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine) gave Stonehill the lead, assisted by Billy Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.), just nine seconds into the next period.  Salve Regina would explode for three consecutive goals in the second, started by senior Mike Mallette.  Freshman Bryan Russell scored just minutes later and sophomore Patrick Bamberry would add a marker to increase the Seahawks' lead to 4-2.

Facing a two score deficient headed into the final period, the Skyhawks responded with true character.  Durkin would score, assisted by Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth, Mass.) and Zach Cantin (Walpole, Mass.), to cut the lead in half.

With time ticking down in the third period, senior Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.) would fire home the game-tying goal, assisted from Curran.  The teams would play a scoreless five minute overtime.

Freshman goaltender Justin Zegel (Ridgewood, N.J.) made 35 saves in net for the host team.  His counter part, freshman Pat Enloe, also finished with 35 saves as the Skyhawks and Seahawks split shots on goal (39).  Today's game marked Zegel's first collegiate start.

Stonehill hosts Northeast-10 Conference opponent UMass-Lowell Wednesday night at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.  The puck drops at 7:00pm.
