Curran Claims 100th Point in 4-2 Loss

Bridgewater, Mass. - With an assist in the second period senior Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine/ North Yarmouth) became the 13th member of Stonehill College's 100 Career Point Club.  Matt's effort was not enough, however, to stop Southern New Hampshire's (10-11-1, 2-2 Northeast-10) offense from claiming a 4-2 victory in the non-conference match up.

Back-to-back goals from Penman sophomore John Frey spotted the visiting team a 2-0 advantage three minutes into the second period.  Frey's first score, a top-shelf wrist shot, came off a face off won by teammate Brendan Hammermeister. The pair would strike 39 seconds later on a power-play score.

Sophomore Andrew Hldreth found himself at the right place, at the right time - intercepting freshman Mike Manna's (Framingham, Mass./Xaverian) clearing pass and placing it into an unguarded net.  The Skyhawks responded 25 seconds later with John Durkin's (Scituate, Mass./Pomfret) sixth goal of the season.

Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass./Deerfield) slid a rebound past goaltender Shane Brooks, 19:39 into the second period to make the score 3-2.  Curran's assist on the goal broke the 100 point mark for his career.

Curran's assist made him the second Skyhawk this season to achieve the 100-point milestone.  Teammate O'Brien crossed the 100-point plateau earlier this year with four assists against Franklin Pierce (12/10).  With four regular season games remaining Curran sits sixth all-time in goals scored (59) and 13th in total points (100).  His 41 career assists rank in College's top 20, as well.

Ironically, the 2007-2008 season marks the fourth time Skyhawk teammates have registered 100 career points in the same season.  Brendan Flemming and Mike Ryan were the last Stonehill duo to do so during the 2002-2003 season.

A lone goal in the third period from Troy Maybury put the Penmen up for good, 4-2.  Goaltender Brooks finished with 31 saves compared to Manna's 21 stops.

The Skyhawks out-shot the Penmen in defeat 33-25, in addition to holding a 34-20 advantage in face-offs won.

Stonehill will look to get back on track with two games this weekend.  The first, a return engagement with Salve Regina on Friday.  Then, Saturday, the Skyhawks travel to Becker College for an 8:35 p.m. start.
