Forward John Durkin (Scituate, Mass.) was named Northeast-10 Player of the Week after he recorded two goals and an assist last week. The announcement today marks the first time Durkin has received the honor in his collegiate career.
Durkin had two goals in the first two games of the Skyhawks'
2007-2008 season. His first marker came in the final minutes
of Stonehill's 6-2 loss to Suffolk, Tuesday night at Walter Brown
Arena. Durkins' second goal sparked a third period comeback
Saturday, as the Skyhawks overcame a two goal deficit to tie Salve
Regina, 4-4.
Other Skyhawks named to the Weekly Honor Roll include seniors
Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine) and
Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.). Curran, the
Conference's leading scorer last year, had one goal and one assist
last week. Zanetti contributed two assists in the game verse
Suffolk and nailed home the tying goal in Saturday's contest
against Salve Regina.
Rookie goaltender Justin Zegel (Ridgewood, N.J.)
earned Freshman of the Week and Goaltender of the Week honors for
his 35 save performance on Saturday. Zegel denied 15 Salve
shots in the third period and overtime to preserve the tie.
The game was Zegel's first collegiate start.
