Curran Honored by the NE-10

Northeast-10 Release

Easton, Mass. - Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine/North Yarmouth) was named to the 2007-2008 Northeast-10 Men's Ice Hockey All-Academic Team.  Curran joins Southern N.H.'s Brandon Hammermeister as the only seniors honored.  John Frey of Southern N.H. also received recognition, as well as Saint Michael's Chris Healey and Phil Labrek and Coursen Schneider, both from Franklin Pierce.

Curran, a Health Care Administration major, leads the team with 10 goals scored.  His seven assists combine for 17 total points - second on the team.  Matt's 1.06 points-per-game rank 16th in the Northeast-10.  His goals-per-game average, 0.62, stands sixth in the Conference.

Matt headlines the Conference's highest scoring offense (3.94 goals per game).  He is also an active member on Stonehill's penalty kill, which moved into the Conference's top spot (79.8 %) after Tuesday night's 4-3 win over Framingham State.

After a goal and an assist this week, Curran now stands one point away from 100 career points.  In Stonehill's history, only twelve Skyhawks have reached the 100-point plateau.

To be eligible for selection to the Conference's academic teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.

The Northeast-10 All-Academic Teams are chosen by a vote of the Northeast-10 Sports Information Directors.
