Stonehill Falls to Becker, 3-2

Boxscore

Marlborough, Mass. -  A late goal from Becker College’s Jared Kersner was disastrous for the Skyhawks, who lost their second straight to Hawks late Saturday night at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough.  The 3-2 loss had Stonehill (10-9-1, 2-1 Northeast-10 Conference) playing catch-up to Becker (12-11-2) all evening.

Billy Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H/Bishop Guertin) put the Purple and White on the board –matching the Hawks’ Michael Herbert’s first period score.  Ninteau’s marker is his fourth score of the season.

The tie was short lived, however.  In the second period, Anthony Libonati netted his 12th goal of the season on a power-play, 15:34 into the second frame.

The Skyhawks answered back in the third period with a power-goal of their own.  With a 5-4 man advantage, Pete Roundy (Simsbury, Conn./Kimball Union) opened the final frame with his third marker of the year, to tie the score at 2-2.

A late goal from Becker College’s Jared Kersner proved to be the game winner at 18:51.  Mike Manna (Framingham, Mass./Xaverian) made 25 saves in net, but dropped to 7-5 with the loss.    Becker’s Tony Stoehr improved to 12-11-1 with 23 saves.  Stonehill was out-shot by Becker 28-25.

In addition to his third-period goal, Roundy added an assist earlier for two total points.  Captains Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine/North Yarmouth), Brendan O’Brien (Braintree, Mass./Deerfield) and James Florentino (West Roxbury/Xaverian) each added assists, as well.

The men return to the ice Sunday evening for a rescheduled contest at Salve Regina.  The time of the game is 5:00 p.m.
