Bridgewater, Mass. - An early goal and an assist from senior Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass./Springfield Cathedral) lead to a five-goal on slot by the Skyhawks (8-7-1, 2-1 NE-10) over the Assumption College Greyhounds (6-16, 0-5 NE-10) Saturday afternoon at the Bridgewater Ice Arena. The reigning Northeast-10 Championship, the Skyhawks, who stood at 6-10 after 16 games last season, improve to 2-1 in the Northeast-10 with two Conference games remaining against Saint Michael's and Saint Anselm.

The Skyhawks took an early 1-0 lead on the first shot of the game, a blue-line wrist shot from defensemen Frank Cavaliere (Winthrop, Mass./St. John's Prep).  The score is the senior's third career goal.  Minutes later Zanetti struck, scoring from in close to spot the host team a two goal advantage.

In a 5-on-5 situation, Peter Roundy (Simsbury, Conn./Kimball Union) scored after a spectacular move across mid-ice.  The unassisted goal is Roundy's first marker of the season.

A penalty on Assumption for too many men on the ice led to a 6-on-5 power play for the Purple and White.  Billy Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H./ Bishop Guertin) took advantage of the opportunity with his third marker of the year.  Ninteau took a pass on right side of the net.  Two quick moves drew the Greyhounds' goaltender out of the net, and Ninteau delivered on the open net.

With nine seconds remaining in the second period, Assumption finally got on the board with a goal from John Routhier.  A perfect pass from teammate Jim Trahon left Routhier in a one-on-one match up with Mike Manna (Framingham, Mass./Xaverian).  Routhier went top shelf for the school as the period came to an end.

With two minutes remaining in the game, junior John Sommers (Manchester, Conn./Kent School) cleared a pass from Stonehill's end into an empty Assumption net.  The final marker put the Skyhawks up 5-1.

Manna held the Greyhounds scoreless through 39:51, stopping 27 shots to that point.  He finished with 36 saves to improve his personal record to 6-3.  Assumption goaltender Jamie DiGiulio fought off 40 Stonehill shots as the Skyhawks out shot the Greyhounds 45-37.

Manna's impressive performance moved him into first place in Goals Against Average (2.89), Save Percentage (.916), and Winning Percentage (.667) among goaltenders in the Northeast-10.  In addition to defense, Stonehill also boasts the second highest scoring offense in the Conference (3.94 goals per game).

Stonehill returns to the ice Tuesday when they travel to Framingham State.  The game is scheduled for 7:20 p.m.
