NEW BEDFORD, Mass.-- Senior Jim Foley (Brockton, Mass.) and junior Jeff Grant (Burlington, Mass.) each netted a pair of goals to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 5-2 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Stonehill Wednesday evening at Hetland Arena.

The two teams traded markers in the opening period of play for a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes of action before the host Corsairs (3-0, 1-0 ECAC Northeast) jumped out to a 3-1 cushion on tallies by Foley and freshman Eric Quinlan (Saugus, Mass.) in the first 11:32 of the middle stanza. The visiting Skyhawks (1-3, 0-2 ECAC Northeast) closed back to within one at 3-2 after two on sophomore Frank Amato's (West Springfield, Mass.) power play goal, but Grant gave UMass Dartmouth some with 5:57 remaining on a shorthanded tally and added his second of the night just 3:14 later to account for the final score.

Grant added an assist to finish with three points on the night for the winners, who also received three assists off the stick of senior Kyle McCullough (Danvers, Mass.) as well as single helpers from senior Ray Kirby (Fairhaven, Mass.), sophomore Nick Paquin (Warwick, R.I.) and freshman Matt Serino (Saugus, Mass.). Sophomore Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth, Mass.) tallied Stonehill's first goal of the night just 1:54 into the contest, while senior Evan Spencer (Billerica, Mass.) assisted on both markers in the setback for the Skyhawks, who also received an assist from junior Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.).

Sophomore Jeff Green (Medway, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for UMass Dartmouth with a 24-save effort, while senior Matt Gorman (Southboro, Mass.) made 32 stosp in net for Stonehill as the Corsairs outshot the Skyhawks by a 37-26 margin.

Stonehill travels to Pomfret, Conn. on Saturday afternoon to take on Nichols in a non-league outing that faces off at 3:00 p.m., while UMass Dartmouth heads to Waterville Valley, N.H. on Saturday evening to take on Plymouth State in an ECAC Northeast match-up at 6:00 p.m.
