BRIDGEWATER, Mass.-- Junior Mike Rust (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) scored a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner 8:55 into the third period, to lead Assumption to a 4-3 non-league college ice hockey victory over Stonehill Saturday evening at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.

The two teams traded a pair of goals each in the opening period of play before Rust's power play marker with 5:28 remaining in the middle stanza gave the visiting Ice Dogs (2-7) a 3-2 edge after 40 minutes of action. Rust's second tally of the night on a 4X4 extended Assumption's lead to 4-2, but junior Matt Curran's (Scarborough, Maine) power play goal with remaining sliced the host Skyhawks' (2-8) deficit to one, but Stonehill was unable to even matters with an extra skater over the final 1:05 of action.

Sophomores Chris Genovese (Woburn, Mass.) and Sean Staid (Peabody, Mass.) also tallied in the win for Assumption, which also received three assists from junior Jim Trahon (Needham, Mass.) as well as single helpers off the sticks of senior Dan Surette (Woburn, Mass.), juniors Patrick Ciummo (Harrisville, R.I.) and Luke McDonough (Norfolk, Mass.) as well as freshman James Capulli (Hampstead, N.H). Junior Chase Feole (Windham, N.H.) and sophomore Billy Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.) added goals in the setback for Stonehill, which received a pair of assists from sophomore Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) as well as single helpers from junior John Durkin (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomores Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth, Mass.) and Frank Amato (West Springfield, Mass.).

Freshman Jamie DiGiulio (Peabody, Mass.) picked up his first collegiate victory in goal for Assumption with a 37-save effort, while senior Matt Gorman (Southboro, Mass.) made 23 stops in net for Stonehill as the Skyhawks outshot the Ice Dogs by a 40-27 margin for the contest.

Stonehill closes out its first semester schedule on Monday evening by heading to Winchendon, Mass. to take on Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 Conference outing that faces off at 7:00 p.m., while Assumption heads to South Burlington, Vt. on Saturday, December 30th to take on Saint Michael's in a Northeast-10 contest at 1:00 p.m.
