WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-- Sophomore Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist while junior Josh Green (Mendon, Mass.) stopped 20 of 21 shots in goal to lift Stonehill to a 5-1 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Western New England Thursday evening at the Olympia Ice Center.

Zanetti staked the visiting Skyhawks (8-6, 5-5 ECAC Northeast) to a 1-0 first period advantage when he converted passes from senior Craig Pasquantonio (Randolph, Mass.) and junior Matt Pollara (Plymouth, Mass.), but the host Golden Bears (3-10-3, 0-7-2 ECAC Northeast) evened matters just 25 seconds into the middle stanza when freshman Mike Majesty (Chicago, Ill.) took a feed from sophomore Nick Klassen (Parker, Colo.). Sophomore Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) gave Stonehill the lead for good with 7:42 to play in the second period on assists from Pasquantonio and sophomore Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine), and sophomore Rob Carpenter's (Cohasset, Mass.) tally on a set-up by fellow sophomore John Durkin (Scituate, Mass.) just 3:24 later gave the Skyhawks a 3-1 cushion after two. Seniors Brian Lewis (Cohasset, Mass.) and Billy Sylvia (Acuhsnet, Mass.) provided insurance tallies in the final 8:01 of play for Stonehill, as Zanetti, junior Ryan Bouchard (Arundel, Maine) and sophomore Chase Feole (Windham, N.H.) set up the Skyhawk markers to close out the scoring.

Green improved to a perfect 5-0 on the season with the win in goal for Stonehill, which has won five straight outings for the first time December 2001. Sophomore Jamie Babineau (Medway, Mass.) made 22 saves in goal in the setback for Western New England, as the Skyhawks outshot the Golden Bears by a 27-21 margin for the contest.

Stonehill travels to Boston on Saturday afternoon to take on Suffolk in a non-league outing that faces off at 4:25 p.m., while Western New England hosts Johnson & Wales in an ECAC Northeast match-up on Saturday evening at the Olympia Ice Center at 7:35 p.m.
