NEWPORT, R.I.-- Junior Travis Hampton (Billings, Mont.) scored a pair of third period power play goals as Salve Regina overcame a one-goal third period deficit to post a 4-2 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Stonehill Thursday evening at Portsmouth Abbey Rink.

The host Seahawks (7-10-3, 5-5-2 ECAC Northeast) trailed 2-1 early in the final stanza before Hampton evened matters at the 5:39 mark and netted the game-winner with 3:55 to play on the man-advantage. Sophomore Mike Mallette (Chepachet, R.I.) iced the triumph for Salve Regina with a short-handed empty-netter that came with 41 seconds remaining, as the hosts ended the visiting Skyhawks (12-7, 8-6 ECAC Northeast) school-record nine-game winning streak in the process.

Freshman Chris Hill (North Chelmsford, Mass.) gave Salve Regina a 1-0 lead after one with a marker 5:55 into the contest, but senior Brian Lewis (Cohasset, Mass.) evened matters for Stonehill 3:59 into the middle stanza to forge a 1-1 tie through 40 minutes of action and then gave the Skyhawks a 2-1 cushion just 22 seconds into the third period, setting up Hampton's heroics for the Seahawks.

Senior Dan Conley (Merrimack, N.H.) notched a pair of assists in the win for Salve Regina, which received a goal and an assist from Mallette as well as single helpers off the sticks of seniors Joe Piekos (Medford, Mass.) and Michael O'Brien (Beverly, Mass.), junior Bryn Sneddon (Casper, Wyo.) and sophomore Bryan Goodwin (Taunton, Mass.). Senior Craig Pasquantonio (Randolph, Mass.) assists on both Stonehill goals for the evening, while sophomore Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.) and freshman James Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.) added single helpers for the Skyhawks.

O'Brien made 34 saves to pick up the win in goal for Salve Regina, while junior Josh Green (Mendon, Mass.) made 24 stops in suffering his first setback in 10 decisions on the season in net for Stonehill, as the Skyhawks outshot the Seahawks by a 36-28 margin for the contest.

Stonehill travels to Winchendon, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Franklin Pierce in a non-league match-up that begins at 2:30 p.m., while Salve Regina hosts Western New England in an ECAC Northeast outing on Saturday evening at Portsmouth Abbey Rink beginning at 6:30 p.m.
