BRIDGEWATER, Mass.-- Junior Greg Mailloux (Gardner, Mass.) scored a pair of goals, including a shorthanded tally as part of a four-goal second period outburst, to lead Fitchburg State to a 6-3 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Stonehill Tuesday evening at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.

Mailloux and sophomore Ross Goff (Seattle, Wash.) netted shorthanded tallies in a 22 second span in the middle stanza to spark the visiting Falcons (4-1-1, 1-1 ECAC Northeast), who also received goals from sophomore Ryan Tierney (Newburyport, Mass.) and freshman Wayne Bonkowski (Onsted, Mich.) in the second frame after sophomore Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine) had given the host Skyhawks (1-4, 0-3 ECAC Northeast) a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes on feeds from senior Brian Dudley (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.).

The two teams traded a pair of goals in the final period of action, as junior Mike Dryer (Rockland, Mass.) netted Fitchburg State's fifth tally before Mailloux closed out the scoring with an empty-netter than came with 29 seconds remaining. Dudley and sophomore Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.) accounted for the Stonehill tallies in the period, as Zanetti's marker came on the power play.

Tierney and Bonkowski each added assists in the win for Fitchburg State, which also received a single helper off the stick of juniors Jason Ledo (Somerset, Mass.) and Stephen Schofield (Valley Village, Calif.) Zanetti and senior Ryan Watson (West Roxbury, Mass.) added assists in the setback for Stonehill.

Sophomore Devan McConnell (Lake Stevens, Wash.) picked up the win in goal for Fitchburg State with a 33-save effort, while senior Billy Petrucci (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and junior Matt Gorman (Southboro, Mass.) each made 14 saves over the first two periods of play for Stonehill, as junior Josh Green (Mendon, Mass.) made four stops in the final stanza. The Falcons held a slim 38-36 advantage in shots on goal over the Skyhawks for the contest.

Stonehill heads to Kingston, R.I. on Friday afternoon to take on Worcester State in opening round play of the 2005 URI Classic beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Fitchburg State hosts UMass Dartmouth in an ECAC Northeast outing next Wednesday evening (November 30th) in Fitchburg, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m.
