EASTON, Mass. (January 22, 2020) – Senior Ray Montilus scored a driving layup with 22-seconds to play and Pace University held off Stonehill College, ranked No. 10 in the D2SIDA East Region poll, the rest of the way to claim a 61-60 victory in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium tonight.

Will Moreton Senior, Guard: 18 points (5-for-11, 2-for-5 threes, 6-for-7 FTs), including 12 in the first half, and four rebounds.

Brandon Twitty Senior, Guard: 17 points (3-for-9 threes, 6-for-8 FTs), including 12 in the second half.

Michael Boen Senior, Guard: nine rebounds, two steals.

Owen Chose Junior, Guard: Seven points, three rebounds, three assists.

Pace

Peyton Wejnert Senior, Forward: Double-double of 23 points (6-for-14, 11-for-16 FTs), ten rebounds and two blocked shots, with 14 fouls drawn.

Brandon Jacobs Junior, Guard: 18 points (4-for-9, 10-for-10 FTs), three rebounds, four assists and two steals.

How it Happened

    Pace shot 47.6-percent from the field (10-for-21) in the second half to erase a six-point halftime deficit following a first half in which Stonehill led by as much as ten.
  • Pace scored the final four points of the contest after Chose connected on his lone three-pointer of the night (1-for-3) with 1:23 remaining to clinch its second-straight win after Montilus drove for a layup with 22-seconds left.
  • Stonehill had two shots in the final minute to regain the lead after Wejnert scored on a layup with a minute to go and following Montilus' bucket. Wejnert blocked an attempt by Stonehill junior Monty Urmilevicius with 44-seconds left to set up the deciding basket, while Twitty missed an off-balance three from the left side at the buzzer to win it.
  • Stonehill led by ten (25-15) after Twitty drained three free-throws with 4:45 left in the first half. The Skyhawks settled for a six-point cushion (30-24) at the break, but Pace quickly draw within a point (35-34) four minutes into the second half after four-straight points from Jacobs and a Wejnert layup.
  • Moreton put Stonehill up three (37-34) a minute later, when Pace used a 10-2 run to grab a five point lead (44-39) with 12:14 to play in the second after a Wejnert three-point play and Christian Adams three-pointer.
  • Three-pointers from Moreton and Twitty pushed Stonehill back in front (49-47) with 8:38 remaining, but Pace snared the lead again (52-51) with two Wejnert free throws two minutes later.
  • Twitty connected from beyond the arc to nose Stonehill back on top (55-52) with less than five to play, but Pace drew level once again (57-57) with two Jacobs free-throws leading up to Chose's three-pointer for the final Skyhawks lead with 103 seconds to play.

Noteworthy

  • Twitty moved into 31st place on Stonehill's career scoring list with 1,089 points in 94 career games, moving ahead of recent Stonehill Hall of Fame inductee Jamal Gomes, '95 (1,082) and closing to within a point of Henry Jackson, '73 (1,090) for 30th all-time.
  • Stonehill was held to a season-low 34-percent shooting (17-for-50) from the field and season-low 60 points.
