Moreton Earns Second Spalding/NE10 Player of the Week Award

EASTON, Mass. (February 12, 2018) – Stonehill College men's basketball sophomore swingman Will Moreton (Minneapolis, Minnesota/Edina) has been named the Spalding/Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season by the league office today.

Moreton averaged 27.5 points on 55.6-percent shooting (20-for-36) from the field, including 5-for-10 (50%) from three-point distance, in a big 2-0 week for Stonehill. He also contributed nine rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals for the week, while draining 10-of-13 (76.9%) free-throw attempts. Moreton also collected Spalding/NE10 Player of the Week honors on January 2 after a pair of non-conference road wins prior to the New Year.

Moreton scored 23 of his game-high 30 points in the second half of Tuesday's 93-71 win at Saint Michael's College, finishing 11-for-20 from the field, including 4-for-7 from three-point distance, while converting 4-of-5 free-throws with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. He followed that up with his third double-double of the season in Saturday's big 84-78 win at Franklin Pierce University, scoring 14 of his game-high 25 points in the second half, while grabbing 11 rebounds, to go with five assists and two steals. He finished shooting 9-of-16 from the floor, while converting 6-of-8 free-throws on the afternoon.

Moreton is the lone Stonehill player to start all 24 games this season, ranking ninth among NE10 scoring leaders with 17.8 points per game and seventh with a team-high seven rebounds per game, while adding 2.8 assists (18th NE10) and 1.2 steals (12th) in 32.9 minutes per game (14th). He is shooting 46.2-percent from the field, including 40.7% (66-for-162) from three-point range, and converting 78.3% (54-69) of his free-throws (14th). Moreton has scored 30-plus points twice this season, including a season-high 33 points in a win at LIU Post on December 31, with eight 20-point games and three double-doubles, scoring in double-figures in all but one game this season.

Moreton, an NE10 All-Rookie Team selection as a freshman, has started all 51 games of his collegiate career at Stonehill, averaging 13.2 points on 45.2-percent shooting, including 39.3% from beyond the arc, in that time. He is a career 81.2-percent shooter from the free-throw line, also adding 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game over the first two years of his career. Moreton has scored 671 points over his career, with 300 rebounds, 116 assists, 55 steals and 39 blocked shots to date. He has been named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll two semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the fall 2017 semester as well.

Stonehill (15-9, 11-7 NE10), ranked tenth in this week's D2SIDA East Region poll, is back in action with a pair of home games this week, starting with a key NE10 battle with Merrimack College, ranked ninth in the region, on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Skyhawks host Assumption College for Senior Day on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Tickets for Stonehill home basketball games can be purchased online in advance at stonehillskyhawks.com.
