Herrity and Cerutti lead Golden Knights to third straight win

ALBANY, N.Y. (January 6, 2018) – The College of Saint Rose, ranked No. 9 in this week's D2SIDA East Region poll, opened up a 20-point halftime lead and didn't look back in posting an 88-59 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium tonight.

Junior Shane Herrity (Glendale, New York/St. Francis Prep) scored a game-high 19 points to lead Saint Rose on 8-of-10 shooting, including 3-for-5 from three-point distance, while adding eight rebounds, three assists and a steal. Classmate Matt Cerutti (Guilderland, New York/Guilderland) powered the Golden Knights who posted a 43-27 rebounding advantage with a double-double effort of 12 points and game-high 11 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass, as the hosts outscored Stonehill 21-7 on second chance points.

Senior Mical-Ryan Boyd (Hempstead, New York/Long Island Lutheran) added 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting, including 4-for-8 from beyond the arc, with four rebounds, while freshman Adam Anderson (Saratoga Springs, New York/Saratoga) rounded out Saint Rose's double-figure scorers with ten points, connecting on 2-of-3 three-pointers and all four free-throw attempts, in 16 minutes off the bench.

Sophomore Brandon Twitty (Randolph, Massachusetts/Catholic Memorial) led Stonehill with 18 points on 7-of-17 shooting, with four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Classmate Will Moreton (Minneapolis, Minnesota/Edina) was the only other Skyhawk in double-figures with ten points, five rebounds and three assists, while senior KJ Lee (Huntington Station, New York/Long Island Lutheran) totaled eight points, four boards and three assists. Sophomore Dan Largey (Oceanport, New Jersey/Peddie School) chipped in with nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from deep off the bench.

Saint Rose led start to finish, scoring nine of the first 11 points in the contest, as Boyd drained a three-pointer 19-seconds in and Cerutti netted four points over the first two and a half minutes. Stonehill followed with six-straight points to pull within one (9-8) after a Moreton layup after 4:26. The Golden Knights followed with the next eight points to gain a nine-point edge (17-8) with an Anderson three-pointer with 13:46 remaining in the first half.

Stonehill drew back within two (22-20) with back-to-back three-pointers from Twitty and Largey, before senior Ryan Roach (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Cardinal Spellman) made one of two at the free-throw line midway through the half. Saint Rose outscored the Skyhawks 25-7 over the remainder of the half to open a 20-point cushion at the intermission. Leading by seven (31-24) with seven minutes to go in the frame, the Golden Knights netted 12-straight points to open a 19-point lead (43-24) after a Boyd three with 3:36 remaining in the half. Herrity also drained a triple and scored five points in all during that stretch.

Stonehill wouldn't get within double-figures throughout the second half, pulling within 14 (50-36) after a Moreton three 3:12 in. Saint Rose responded with an 11-3 run to open a 22-point lead (61-39) on a tip-in from Cerutti with 13-minutes left. The Skyhawks made one last push to get within 15 (63-48) after a Roach layup with eight minutes still to play, but could get no closer, with the Golden Knights restoring its 22-point lead (74-52) four minutes later after five-straight points from Boyd to seal the win.

Stonehill (8-7, 4-5 NE10) is back in action on Saturday, when it visits Southern Connecticut State University for an NE10 matchup at 3:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home next Wednesday, January 17, to host Le Moyne College at Merkert Gym at 7:30 p.m. Saint Rose (12-4, 7-1 NE10) visits Franklin Pierce University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
