Buczek leads four Dolphins in double-figures with 19 points, including gamewinning three-point play with seven seconds remaining

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (January 4, 2017) – Le Moyne College, ranked tenth in the most recent D2SIDA East Regional poll, erased a six point halftime deficit, rallying from four down with a minute and a half to play, to claim a 69-68 victory over Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the region, in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action at Ted Grant Court this afternoon.

Senior Stan Buczek (Port Jervis, New York/Burke Catholic) led four Le Moyne players in double-figures with a game-high 19 points, including a game-clinching three point play with seven seconds remaining to lift the Dolphins to their sixth straight win. He made 5-of-7 shots from the field and converted all nine free-throws for the contest, while adding three rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.

Juniors Russell Sangster (Rockville, Maryland/Bullis School) and Tyree Chambers (Bayreuth, Germany) each netted 11 points for Le Moyne. Chambers made 4-of-7 shots from the floor, including 2-for-4 from three-point range, with two rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench, while Sangster recorded two boards, an assist and steal. Classmate Tanner Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland) chipped in with ten points, three assists and two rebounds.

Senior Ryan Logan (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown) led four from Stonehill in double-figures with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting, four rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot and a steal. Junior KJ Lee (Huntington Station, New York/Long Island Lutheran) added 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting, four rebounds, three assists and a steal, while classmate Isaiah Bess (LaGrange, Maine/Hampden Academy) and freshman Daniel Largey (Oceanport, New York/Peddie School) each netted ten points. Bess was aided by 5-of-6 shooting at the free-throw line and totaled four rebounds and two steals, while Largey made 3-of-5 shots from the floor, including 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, with three boards. Freshman Will Moreton (Minneapolis, Minnesota/Edina) chipped in with nine points, a team-high six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Le Moyne shot 43.6-percent from the field (24-for-55), including 52.2% (12-23) in the second half in mounting its rally, connecting on 6-of-22 (27.3%) three-pointers and converting at 83.3% (15-18) from the free-throw line. Stonehill finished shooting 46.4% (26-56) from the floor, but just 38.5% (10-26) after halftime, connecting on 5-of-13 three-pointers (38.5%) and 11-of-13 (84.6%) free-throws. The Skyhawks held a 32-31 rebounding edge, outscoring the Dolphins 9-2 in second chance points, and the hosts posted a 25-14 advantage in bench points.

Stonehill held a six point lead (36-30) at the half after leading by as much as nine during the opening stanza. The Skyhawks lead was seven (53-46) after a Lee layup with 11 minutes remaining when Le Moyne rallied with three-pointers from junior Anthony Richards (New Castle, Pennsylvania/New Castle), sophomore C.J. Asuncion-Byrd (Greenwich, Connecticut/Greenwich) and Hyland to take the lead, running the edge to four (57-53) after a Hyland jumper with 7:39 to play.

Stonehill took the lead back after a Moreton triple and three-point play by Logan (65-63) with 3:38 to go. Logan pushed the Skyhawks lead to four (67-63) with just under three minutes to play, where the margin also stood (68-64) after Bess split two free-throws with 1:32 remaining. Chambers scored a layup off a Skyhawks turnover to draw Le Moyne within a possession with 55-seconds on the clock. Lee missed a layup at the other end and then Buczek was fouled going to the basket with seven seconds left, making the basket to knot the score and then draining the go-ahead free-throw to complete the three-point play.

Stonehill had plenty of time for a winning basket, but junior Daniel Kaigler (Syracuse, New York/Bishop Ludden) got a hand on a three-point attempt from Logan to seal the Le Moyne win. The Skyhawks used a 13-0 run in the first half to turn an early six point deficit (25-19) after a Buczek layup with 7:49 remaining, into a seven point advantage (32-25) following a layup from junior Joel Berroa (Lawrence, Massachusetts/Bridgton Academy) with 3:58 on the clock. Logan scored seven points for the Skyhawks during the run, including a three-pointer, and the visitors would stretch their advantage to a game-high nine (36-27) after a Largey triple with 36-seconds left, before Le Moyne ended the half with a Hyland three.

Stonehill (9-5, 4-4 NE10) is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Southern Connecticut State University, ranked third in the region, at Merkert Gymnasium at 3:30 p.m. Le Moyne (10-3, 5-2 NE10) hosts Assumption College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
