22 turnovers and 1-for-16 shooting from three, quiets Skyhawks in NE-10 opener
Senior Karl Ziegler (Annandale, Virginia/Annandale) led four Assumption players in double-figures with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, converting all four free-throws, to go with seven rebounds, while sophomore Justin Tuckson (Stafford, Virginia/Christ Chapel Academy) also netted 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, including 4-for-6 from three-point range, with five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sophomore Damien Rance (Melbourne, Australia) notched a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds, connecting on 6-of-11 shots. Senior Marcus Murray (Washington, D.C./John F. Kennedy) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points, four assists and two steals.
Assumption finished shooting 45.8-percent from the field (27-for-59), including 50% (16-32) in the first half, while burying 9-of-20 three-pointers (45%) and converting 11-of-14 (78.6%) free-throws. The Greyhounds held a 32-29 rebounding edge, but caused the most damage off Stonehill's 22 turnovers, compared to 11 of their own, with a 25-11 advantage in points off turnovers.
Senior preseason All-American Ryan Logan (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown) paced Stonehill with a game-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting, eight rebounds and two assists. Junior Joel Berroa (Lawrence, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) contributed a season-high ten points off the bench on 4-of-4 shooting from the field, converting 2-of-3 free-throws, while freshman Will Moreton (Minneapolis, Minnesota/Edina) also netted ten points and three boards.

Stonehill shot 44.7-percent (21-for-47) from the field overall, but was just 1-for-16 (6.3%) from three-point range overall and shot only 38.1% (8-21) from the floor in the second half. The Skyhawks converted 16-of-19 (84.2%) free-throws.
Stonehill held an early four point lead (10-6) after a layup from junior Isaiah Bess (LaGrange, Maine/Hampden Academy) less than four minutes into the game. Assumption followed with ten straight points to take a six point lead (16-10) on a three-pointer by freshman Branislav Vujadinovic (Belgrade, Serbia) with 12:34 remaining in the half. The Greyhounds extended the run to 18-4 in stretching the lead to ten points (24-14) with a Ziegler jumper with 8:34 remaining.
Assumption's lead was still ten (37-27) after a layup by sophomore Nick Pasquale (Shrewsbury, Massachusetts/Worcester Academy) with 1:34 to go before the break. Stonehill was able to cut the gap to five at the half (37-32) when junior Ryan Roach (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Cardinal Spellman) ended the half with a three-point play.
Stonehill pulled even twice in the opening minutes of the second half, the second of which came on a Logan tip-in (39-39) three and a half minutes in. Assumption responded with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to push its lead back to nine (50-41) after a Tuckson three with 12:48 to go. The Greyhounds lead reached 15 (59-44) following a pair of Ziegler free-throws with 9:30 remaining and the Skyhawks wouldn't get the lead under ten the rest of the way.
Stonehill (2-1, 0-1 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday, when it visits Saint Anselm College for an NE-10 matchup at 3:30 p.m. The Skyhawks are back home next Tuesday, November 22, to host Merrimack College at 7:30 p.m. Assumption (1-2, 1-0 NE-10) hosts Saint Michael's College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
