Ryan Herrion Named Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach

Former New Hampshire Director of Basketball Ops and student-athlete joins Chris Kraus' coaching staff

EASTON, Mass. (June 15, 2015) – Stonehill College has announced that Ryan Herrion has joined the men's basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach under Chris Kraus '06. The announcement was made by Kraus, who is in his third year as head coach at his alma mater, and confirmed by Cindy MacDonald, Interim Director of Athletics at the College.

"I am very excited to add Ryan to our coaching staff here at Stonehill," said Kraus. "He is an extremely hard worker who has a tremendous passion for the game and is excited to learn and grow as a coach. Ryan comes from a great basketball family and will bring a wealth of knowledge that will certainly add to our program."

Herrion comes to Stonehill after two years as Director of Operations for the men's basketball program at the University of New Hampshire, from which he is a 2012 graduate and former Wildcats captain. Herrion, who is the son of UNH head coach Bill Herrion, handled all the day-to-day operations of the men's basketball program, providing assistance with practice and game preparation and overseeing summer camps and annual fundraising events. Ryan Herrion assisted with a Wildcats team that posted a program-record 19 wins and its first postseason appearance in program history during the 2014-15 season. UNH boasted three All-America East selections, including AE Rookie of the Year Tanner Leissner.

Herrion also served as the Director of Player Development and Video Coordinator at UNH. He provided daily video analysis, edited video for player skill development and assisted in producing opponent scouting reports. Prior to returning to his alma mater, Herrion was a graduate assistant coach at Marshall University for the 2012-13 season, with the Thundering Herd earning a spot in the Conference USA Tournament. In addition to assisting with daily skill development of the student-athletes, working directly with the perimeter players, he also served as the team's academic monitor.

Herrion earned his Bachelor's Degree from New Hampshire in sociology in 2012. He was a four year member of the Wildcats men's basketball team as a walk-on his first three seasons before earning a scholarship and serving as team captain his senior year. Herrion was part of the winningest class in program history at UNH and also was a member of the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He has also gained valuable coaching experience at numerous camps and clinics throughout New England.

The Stonehill men's basketball program is coming off a rebound season in which it posted a 19-10 record overall, including a 14-7 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference to finish tied for second in the Northeast Division. The Skyhawks returned to the NE-10 Tournament after a two-year hiatus, while also collecting the program's 13th NCAA Tournament bid.
