Senior forward Jack Cole registers 20th career double-double with team-high 15 points and game-high 11 rebounds
MANCHESTER, N.H. (December 6, 2014) – Southern New Hampshire University utilized a 13-5 run early in the second half to stretch a six-point lead to a 14-point advantage en route to a 73-58 victory over Stonehill College this afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action at SNHU Fieldhouse.
Southern New Hampshire, which led by just six at halftime, shot 57.1% (12-of-21) from the floor in the second half, including 66.7% (4-of-6) from beyond the arc, to pull away from Stonehill. The Skyhawks posted a 38.7% (12-of-31) shooting clip in the final 20 minutes of action after hitting 45.8% (11-of-24) of their shots in the first half.
Stonehill senior forward Jack Cole (New Providence, New Jersey/New Providence) registered his second consecutive double-double and fourth overall this season (20th career) with a team-high 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting, and a game-high 11 rebounds to go with two blocked shots and a steal. Cole was one of four Skyhawks in double-figures this afternoon.
Sophomore forward Ryan Logan (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown) finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal, while classmate Jimmy Walsh (Manasquan, New York/Manasquan) totaled ten points on 3-of-5 shooting, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, three rebounds, and one steal.
Junior guard Carter Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) chipped in with ten points, three rebounds, and two assists, while freshman guard Isaiah Bess (LaGrange, Maine/Hampden Academy) added six points, draining two of his six three-point attempts.
Southern New Hampshire junior guard Rodney Sanders (Linden, New Jersey/St. Thomas More) led three Penmen in double-figures with a game-high 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-7 from long range and 5-of-6 from the free throw line, to go with four rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Senior forward Elijah Bonsignore (Felton, Delaware/St. Thomas More) converted on six of his eight field goal attempts and made 4-of-7 from the charity stripe for a total of 17 points. Bonsignore also added seven rebounds, three assists, and one block.
Sophomore forward Devin Gilligan (Amherst, New Hampshire/Augustana) posted Southern New Hampshire's lone double-double with 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 1-of-2 from three-point range and 7-of-8 from the free throw line, and a team-best ten rebounds.

Junior forward B.J. Cardarelli (Manchester, Connecticut/St. Thomas More) added nine points and four rebounds, while senior forward Alex Dobrovic (Podgorica, Montenegro/Bridgton Academy) chipped in with five points, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.
Stonehill held a slim advantage on the glass in the contest, as the Skyhawks outrebounded the Penmen 34-31. Southern New Hampshire committed just eight turnovers compared to Stonehill's 14, however, and the Penmen capitalized on those miscues, scoring 18 points off turnovers.
Stonehill was able to keep the game close for the majority of the first half, trailing by just one (17-16) with 10:22 on the clock before a 7-0 Southern New Hampshire run extended the Penmen's lead to 24-16. After a layup by Logan at the 8:27 mark, Gilligan knocked down a pair of free throws and Cardarelli hit a three-pointer to give the home team their largest lead of the half (11) with 5:51 remaining before the break.
With Stonehill trailing 31-20 and just under two minutes on the clock, Logan sent the Skyhawks into the locker room on a positive note, as he scored five consecutive points on two layups and a free throw to cut the deficit to six (31-25) at halftime.
Following baskets by Bonsignore and Cole to open the second half, Cardarelli knocked down consecutive three-pointers to spark a 13-5 Southern New Hampshire run that extended the home team's lead to 14 (46-32) with 15:33 left in the game.
Stonehill scored the next five points on a three-pointer by Bess followed by a pair of Walsh free throws to pull back to within nine (46-37), but the Penmen answered with a decisive 11-2 run to take an 18-point lead (57-39), their biggest of the game, at the midpoint of the half. The Skyhawks would cut their deficit down to 11 in the closing minutes, before Southern New Hampshire pushed the final margin back to 15 with late free throws.
Stonehill (5-3, 3-2 NE-10) will look to bounce back on Wednesday night, when the Skyhawks host Saint Anselm College at Merkert Gymnasium for a 7:30 p.m. contest. Southern New Hampshire (5-2, 4-1 NE-10) is also back in action on Wednesday night, as the Penmen are set to host Assumption College for the second of four consecutive games at SNHU Fieldhouse.
