Stonehill to Participate in “Suits and Sneakers” Weekend on Saturday

Skyhawks to host Southern Connecticut State for the NABC's 10th Annual Coaches' vs. Cancer Event to benefit the American Cancer Society 

EASTON, Mass. (January 24, 2013) – The Stonehill College men's and women's basketball programs will join other National of Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) members across the country in participating in the 10th annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend to benefit the American Cancer Society when the Skyhawks host Southern Connecticut State University for a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Merkert Gymnasium on Saturday at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend, a collaborative initiative of the NABC and American Cancer Society is slated for the weekend of January 25-27. Stonehill head coaches David McLaughlin and Trisha Brown, as well as their assistant coaches, will join over 4,000 college and high school coaches across the United States will lace up sneakers instead of dress shoes with their usual game attire to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer. To show your support for the fight against cancer, Stonehill invites you to wear your sneakers to the game on Saturday as well.

Stonehill, in conjunction with the American Cancer Society of Massachusetts, has set up a website for donations that can be accessed by clicking here.

Donations will also be accepted during both men's and women's basketball games on Saturday. Fans can also donate $5 to Coaches vs. Cancer by texting the word "Coach" to 20222 any time between January 21 and April 9 to be entered for a chance to win one of several exclusive prizes, like a free trip to the 2013 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic or autographed items. The Stonehill men's basketball team (8-8, 4-8 NE-10) carries a 7-2 record at Merkert Gym this season and look to build off its first road win of the year at American International College last night when it battles Southern Connecticut State (10-6, 7-5 NE-10) on Saturday afternoon.

The Stonehill women's basketball team (14-2, 10-2 NE-10), ranked 13th in this week's USA TODAY Sports/Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll, looks to bounce back from just its second loss of the season at AIC on Wednesday night when it tips off against Southern Connecticut (5-10, 2-10 NE-10) in Saturday's opener at 1:30 p.m.
