Skyhawks bury 13 triples as Tongo nets game-high 21 points
Senior Andre Tongo (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) again led the way for Stonehill with a game-high 21 points as he made 8-of-13 shots from the field, including 5-for-8 from three-point range, to go with four rebounds. Junior Brian Hamor (Schenectady, N.Y./Bishop Gibbons) added 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, while converting 5-of-7 free-throws to go with three rebounds, four assists and two steals. Classmate Adam Fazzini (Drums, Pa./Crestwood) buried 4-of-6 three's for 12 points in 22 minutes off the bench, while senior Patrick Lee (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) contributed ten points, shooting 5-of-9 from the floor, a game-high seven rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Senior Edil Lacayo (Bronx, N.Y./Salesian) led Queens with 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 4-for-5 from three-point range, while converting all three free-throws with four rebounds. Sophomore Jeremiah Mordi (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) added 15 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the field and converting 3-of-4 free-throws, to go with a team-high six rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Sophomore Pat Piasecki (Coram, N.Y./Longwood) finished with 11 points, shooting 4-for-7 from the field, and four boards.

Stonehill shot 50-percent (28-for-56) from the field, including 13-for-22 (59.1%) from three-point range, while converting 10-of-14 (71.4%) free-throw attempts for the night. The Skyhawks made 7-of-12 three's (58.3%) in the first half and 6-of-10 (60%) in the second as part of 54.5% (12-22) shooting from the field over the final 20 minutes. Stonehill turned the ball over just six times, posting a 13-2 advantage in points off turnovers, with the Skyhawks bench outscoring the Queens reserves, 20-10. The Knights finished with a 31-24 rebounding advantage and shot 48.9-percent (23-47) from the field, including 6-of-12 (50%) from deep, and converting 12-of-18 (66.7%) free-throws.
Stonehill used a 20-6 run to turn a three point deficit (18-15) into an 11 point lead (35-24) after a Fazzini three-pointer with 2:40 left in the first half. The Skyhawks hit four three-pointers during the run in all, including two from Tongo.
Stonehill led by eight (39-31) at the half and quickly regained its 11 point cushion (42-31) after Hamor was fouled shooting a three and converted all three free-throws 17 seconds into the second half. Queens closed within two (44-42) as Mordi capped an 11-2 run when he converted a three-point play 3:46 into the half. The Skyhawks bounced back with ten of the next 12 points to push the lead back to double figures (54-44) after a Tongo layup with 11:03 to play.
Back-to-back three's from sophomore Mitch Amelio (Carlsbad, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) and Tongo, followed by a Tongo layup pushed the Stonehill lead to a game-high 13 (62-49) with 8:57 remaining. Three free-throws from Lacayo drew Queens within eight (62-54) with 7:05 left, but Stonehill quickly regained a 13 point lead (68-55) after a three-point play by junior Sam Markle (Bethany, Conn./Saint Thomas More) with 6:17 left and the lead never dipped below ten points the rest of the way.
Stonehill pushed the lead to 14 (72-58) after two Hamor free-throws with 3:57 to go and then a game-high 17 (77-60) on a Tongo three with 1:42 to play.
Stonehill (7-2, 5-2 NE-10) is off until Thursday, December 29, when it faces Holy Family University on day one of the East Region Classic, hosted by Philadelphia University, at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks next home game is after the New Year when they return to Northeast-10 Conference play against the University of New Haven on Tuesday, January 3, at 7:30 p.m. Queens (3-5, 2-1 ECC) visits Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday at 8 p.m.
