Kernan Earns NABC All-Region Honors

Medford, N.J., native collects award for first time in career  

EASTON, Mass. (March 17, 2011) – Stonehill College senior forward Mike Kernan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) has earned a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II All-East Region second team, as selected by the region's NABC members.

Kernan, who earned All-Northeast-10 Conference honors for the first time this season, collects his first All-Region recognition with his selection to the NABC second team. He averaged a double-double for Stonehill in 30 starts, posting 12.4 points and 10.6 rebounds (2nd NE-10), including a Conference-best 7.8 defensive boards per game, to go with 1.0 blocked shots (8th) in 31.2 minutes per contest. Kernan shot 49.5-percent (153-309) from the field (13th) and led the Skyhawks in scoring eight times and rebounding in 23 contests, posting ten double-doubles.

In 22 Northeast-10 games, Kernan led Stonehill with 12.8 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots in 32 minutes per game, shooting 50.2-percent (117-233) from the field. In postseason play, he averaged 13.3 points and 11.3 rebounds in three games, including 14.5 points and 13 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament East Regional this past weekend.

Kernan became the 35th player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point plateau recently and finished his career 30th all-time with 1,055 points in 120 career games played (85 starts). He also ranks third in the program's Northeast-10 Conference era with 901 career rebounds (13th all-time in NE-10 history), while also totaling 117 assists, 75 steals and 86 blocks. Kernan scored a career-high 21 points in a win over Assumption College on January 11 and snared a career-best 19 rebounds in a win over Saint Rose on January 29.

Stonehill (22-8, 16-6 NE-10) earned its third-straight NCAA Tournament bid, 11th in program history overall, after finishing in a tie for second in the Northeast-10 standings. The Skyhawks reached the East Regional semifinals for the second-straight year after earning the third seed in the regional.
