Stonehill Earns No. 3 Seed in NCAA East Regional

Skyhawks will face 6th-seeded Adelphi when regional opens Saturday at Bentley

EASTON, Mass. (March 6, 2010) – Stonehill College, among teams receiving votes in this week's NABC Division II poll, has earned its 11th NCAA Tournament bid in program history and are seeded third in the East Regional which will be hosted by top-seeded Bentley University Saturday through Tuesday in Waltham, Mass.

Stonehill (21-7, 16-6 NE-10), which has earned an NCAA bid for the third-straight year and fourth time under eight-year head coach David McLaughlin, will open the NCAA Tournament against sixth-seeded and Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi University (20-10, 12-10 NE-10) in an East Regional quarterfinal on Saturday at noon. The Panthers earned the NE-10's automatic bid by capturing the Tournament Championship yesterday with a 78-72 upset of top-seeded Bentley (22-7, 18-4) yesterday afternoon.

The winner of Saturday's quarterfinal will face the winner of Saturday's second contest (2:30 p.m.) between second-seeded American International College (20-8, 16-6 NE-10), an at-large bid from the NE-10, and seventh-seeded Bloomfield College (21-8, 15-3 NE-10), regular season and tournament champions from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, on Sunday at 6 p.m.

The remaining first round matchups at Bentley's Dana Athletic Center on Saturday include: top-seeded and host Bentley hosting eighth-seeded LIU-C.W. Post (21-9, 16-5 ECC), the East Coast Conference tournament champions, at 6 p.m., and fourth-seeded University of Massachusetts Lowell (20-9, 14-8 NE-10), an at-large bid from the NE-10, and fifth-seeded College of Saint Rose (21-8, 15-7 NE-10, also an at-large NE-10 bid, at 8:30 p.m.

Sunday's semifinal matchups will be played at 6 and 8:30 p.m., with the East Regional final scheduled for Tuesday, March 15, at 8:30 p.m. Bentley has been named the top seed and host of both the men's and women's East Regionals, with the women's schedule slated for Friday, Sunday afternoon, and the regional final on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The winner of the men's East Region will advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, which will be held March 23-26 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass.
