WORCESTER, Mass.-- Freshman Mike Devine (South Boston, Mass.) netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner with three seconds remaining, to lift Stonehill to a 4-3 non-league college ice hockey victory over Assumption Saturday evening at Buffone Rink.

Devine's power play goal on a feed from fellow freshman James Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.) enabled the visiting Skyhawks (4-6) to rally from their second two-goal deficit of the evening. The host Ice Dogs (2-9) grabbed a 2-0 advantage after 20 minutes of play on tallies by senior Bobby Fanciullo (Medford, Mass.) and sophomore Jim Trahon (Needham, Mass.) that came 54 seconds apart, but senior Billy Sylvia (Acushnet, Mass.) sliced Stonehill's deficit in half 3:17 into the middle stanza with what proved to be the lone goal of the second period. Senior Jeff Ilvonen's (Auburn, Mass.) power play goal 3:34 into the final period enabled Assumption to regain a two-goal cushion at 3-1, but tallies off the stick of Devine and fellow freshman Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) enabled the Skyhawks to forge a 3-3 tie heading into the closing minutes, setting up Devine's heroics.

Junior Ryan Bouchard (Arundel, Maine), sophomore John Durkin (Scituate, Mass.) and freshmen Ryan MacInnis (Simsbury, Conn.) and James Killeen (Derry, N.H.) notched single assists in the win for Stonehill, while Ilvonen and Fanciullo finished the night with a goal and an assist each in the setback for Assumption, which also received a pair of helpers off the stick of freshman Craig Moreton (Lynnfield, Mass.).

Junior Matt Gorman (Southboro, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Stonehill with an 18-save effort, while freshman David Pinkham (Malden, Mass.) made 38 stops in net for Assumption as the Skyhawks outshot the Ice Dogs by a 42-21 margin for the contest.

Stonehill closes out its first semester schedule on Monday evening as the Skyhawks entertain Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 Conference outing at the Bridgewater Ice Arena that faces off at 7:30 p.m., while Assumpiton will be idle until Saturday, January 7th when the Ice Dogs host UMass Dartmouth in an ECAC Northeast match-up at Buffone Rink beginning at 7:30 p.m.
