Susan Ciufo is in her fourth year as head coach of the Stonehill College field hockey program.

Ciufo has continued the tradition of success for the Stonehill field hockey program, leading the Skyhawks to a 54-27 (.667) record overall, including an impressive 36-13 (.735) in the Northeast-10 Conference over her four seasons at the helm. The Skyhawks have appeared in the NE10 Tournament all four years, reaching at least the semifinal round every year, winning the NE10 Championship with a 2-1 win at Assumption College in 2015. She has guided the Skyhawks to three NCAA Tournament bids, including a spot in the National Semifinals in 2015.

Stonehill made program history in 2018 by earning the first No. 1 national ranking in program history when it reached the benchmark in the October 3 Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll after starting the season with a 6-1 record overall, including wins over preseason No. 2 East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University and No. 5 West Chester (Pa.) University in September.

Offense has been Stonehill’s staple over Ciufo’s four seasons, finishing first or second in the NE10 all four years and ranking in the top six nationally each year as well. The Skyhawks led Division II with 4.10 goals per game in 2017 and led the NE10 with 3.38 goals per game in 2015 to rank second nationally that year. All-American Kacie Smith led all three levels of NCAA field hockey in scoring and goals as a junior and then led Division II in both categories her senior year.

Ciufo has mentored the last four NE10 and NFHCA East Region Players of the Year, with Erika Kelly, '16 collecting the honors in 2015 and then current senior Kacie Smith becoming just the second three-time NE10 Player of the Year in Conference history following her senior year, to go with a trio of East Region Player of the Year accolades as well. Kelly and Smith also garnered NFHCA Division II Player of the Year honors with Ciufo at the helm, with Kelly becoming the program's first National Player of the Year in 2015 and then Smith collecting the honors as a junior in 2017 after she led all three levels of NCAA field hockey in scoring and goals, setting an NCAA II record with 41 goals, to go with an NE10 record 99 points and leading the NE10 with her school-record 17 assists.

Stonehill field hockey student-athletes have earned ten All-America honors under Ciufo, including Smith and Kelly as the lone three-time first team selections in program history. Stonehill has collected 15 All-NE10 honors over Ciufo's four seasons, including five in 2018. Six Stonehill freshmen have also earned NE10 All-Rookie status as she continued to replenish the program's talent.

Stonehill field hockey student-athletes also performed in the classroom, with five earning NE10 Academic All-Conference honors over her first three years at the helm, including two-time honoree Sarah Morse, '17 who earned CoSIDA Academic All-America At Large third team honors in 2016 after collecting Academic All-District accolades.

Ciufo took over as head coach at Stonehill following two seasons as assistant coach at her alma mater, Drexel University. During her two seasons as an assistant coach under long-time head coach Denise Zelenak at Drexel, Ciufo worked with both the forwards and goalkeepers, preparing practice plans and developing their individual skills for game day. She had a focus on breaking down game film and recruiting student-athletes from across the country. The Dragons posted a 23-15 (.605) overall record in her two seasons as an assistant coach, including a 6-6 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association, posting a pair of wins over nationally-ranked University of Iowa in 2013 and Temple University in 2014. Drexel earned a spot in the 2013 CAA semifinals, posting a 13-7 record overall, including 4-2 in the CAA.

Prior to returning as an assistant coach with her alma mater, Ciufo served two seasons at Lehigh as assistant coach under Stacey Eversley, who formerly coached at NE10 member American International College. Ciufo was the Mountain Hawks recruiting coordinator and offensive specialist and served as interim head coach while Eversley was on maternity leave over the latter part of the 2012 season, gaining valuable experience in that role.

Ciufo is active with USA Field Hockey, both as a player and coach. She has been a member of the USA Indoor National Team since 2011, earning a gold medal at the 2013 Rohrmax Cup and a bronze medal at the 2014 Pan Am Cup. Ciufo has been a USA Regional and National Futures Tournament selector since 2013, was an assistant coach with USA New Jersey Junior High Performance in 2011 and USA Pennsylvania High Performance in 2015. She has also earned coaching experience as head coach of Mystx Field Hockey Club’s U-19 squad.

Ciufo is a 2011 graduate of Drexel, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in education, also receiving a Master’s Degree in sports management from Drexel in 2015. She was a four-year starter for the Dragons field hockey program and ranks second in program history with 58 goals and 140 points in 84 career games. She was a four-time CAA Scholar-Athlete honoree and was named first team All-CAA and first team Regional All-American as a sophomore, junior and senior. In 2008, Ciufo set the NCAA record with a 22 game point streak and received third team All-America honors. She helped the 2009 Dragons earn an at large bid in the 2009 NCAA Tournament after winning the CAA regular season championship.

Ciufo currently resides in Easton.
