Skyhawks go to overtime for third-straight game, fourth time overall

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 25, 2019) – Southern New Hampshire University, ranked No. 8 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, slipped past No. 7 Stonehill College, 2-1 in overtime in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Larkin Field tonight.

Freshman Lisa Hagel scored just 41-seconds into overtime to lift Southern New Hampshire its sixth straight win and snap Stonehill's three-game winning streak, which included back-to-back overtime triumphs last week. Postgrad Melanie Rennie preserved the win for the Penmen with six saves, while senior Laura van der Doorn also scored a goal.

Sophomore Olivia Cameron scored her third goal of the season for Stonehill, while junior Katie Lammando registered a save. The Skyhawks finished with a 12-6 advantage in shots and 12-5 margin for penalty corners in the loss.

van der Doorn broke the stalemate with 4:29 remaining in regulation when she converted a penalty stroke for her seventh goal of the season. The goal broke Stonehill's shutout streak at 219:03 dating back to the third quarter of its 5-1 win over Southern Connecticut State University on September 14.

Cameron forced overtime for the third-straight game for Stonehill, and fourth this season overall, with her third goal of the season off a pass from freshman Mackenzie Quigley with 3:27 remaining. Cameron scored for the second-straight game for the Skyhawks, while Quigley now leads the team with three assists.

Hagel followed with the winner just 41-seconds into overtime with her eighth goal of the year into the left side of the cage. It marks just the second game this season Stonehill has allowed more than one goal in a game and the first since its season-opening loss at then No. 2-ranked West Chester University.

Stonehill (3-3, 3-1 NE10) is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Pace University for Senior Day at W.B. Mason Stadium at noon. Southern N.H. (6-1, 4-0 NE10) visits No. 10 Adelphi University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
