Rose nets pair as Setters sew up regular season title, top seed for next week's NE10 Tournament

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (November 6, 2018) – Pace University, ranked No. 2 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, staked out a two goal lead in the first half and made it stand in clinching its first Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship with a 3-1 victory over No. 9 Stonehill College in NE10 field hockey action at Finnerty Field tonight.

Senior Halley Rose scored two goals to lead Pace to its 14th-straight win. Senior Jenna Sanossian also scored a goal for the Setters, while freshman Grace Henderson made the three goals stand with six saves in goal.

Senior All-American Kacie Smith, the reigning Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Player of the Year, scored the lone goal for Stonehill – the 103rd of her career. Senior Sara Freedman made four saves over the opening 51-minutes in the Skyhawks goal, before sophomore Katie Lammando was untested in the final 19-minutes. Sophomore Elaine Bachelder registered a defensive save for the Skyhawks.

Rose opened the scoring four minutes into the contest with an unassisted strike and then Sanossian doubled the lead after 17-minutes when she scored her eighth goal of the year off a pass from senior Paige Predmore.

Smith's 26th goal of the season pulled Stonehill back into the game with 11:10 remaining in the first half, but Rose's 15th of the year 6:40 into the second half restored the two-goal lead for Pace, where it stood until the final buzzer.

Stonehill (11-6, 7-5 NE10) closes out the regular season on Saturday, when it aims to lock up a spot in next week's NE10 Tournament as it hosts Saint Michael's College on Senior Day at W.B. Mason Stadium at 1 p.m. Pace (17-1, 13-0 NE10) will host an NE10 quarterfinal round matchup on Tuesday, November 13.
