Andersen and Cameron notch five points apiece for Skyhawks

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (October 20, 2018) – Stonehill College saw four different players with multiple points in a 6-1 triumph over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at DellaCamera Stadium tonight.

Senior Carly Andersen and freshman Olivia Cameron each totaled five points to lead four Skyhawks with multiple points in the win. Andersen and Cameron both recorded two goals and an assist on the night, with Andersen matching her career-high for goals and points, and Cameron matched her season-highs for both.

Senior All-American Kacie Smith, the reigning Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Player of the Year, netted a pair of goals for Stonehill, giving her 96 in her career – just two shy of former teammate Erika Kelly's '16 program and NE10 record of 98. Smith, who broke the NE10 career scoring record in Wednesday night's 2-1 double-overtime win at Saint Anselm College, now has 96 goals and 33 assists for 225 points in 73 career games played. Freshman Sophie Schreck  chipped in with the first two assists of her career for the Skyhawks.

Senior Sara Freedman finished with two saves in the Stonehill cage for the night. Sophomore Natalie Shaker registered 14 stops in the New Haven goal, while freshman Alexis Rider scored the Chargers goal.

Smith opened the scoring just 4:53 into the contest when she drove into the arc and fired a shot into the middle of the cage. The Skyhawks would grab a 3-0 halftime lead, with Andersen playing a role in each of the next two goals for the visitors. She scored her first goal of the night off a cross from Schreck at 13:01 and then turned provider for Cameron's first with 45-seconds remaining in the half.

Cameron set up Andersen's second goal 5:23 into the second half with a cross that Andersen tipped in for her eighth goal of the year. Rider got New Haven on the scoreboard just two minutes later with a hard shot from the top of the arc for her fourth goal of the season, but the Skyhawks scored the final two goals to seal the win.

Smith added her Division II-leading 19th goal of the season at 51:54 with an unassisted strike into an empty net, marking her sixth multi-goal game of the year. Cameron wrapped up her second multi-goal game of the season with 7:53 to play, scoring off a pass from Schreck on a penalty corner.
