Rennie shuts out Skyhawks with seven saves, van der Doorn nets winner

EASTON, Mass. (October 13, 2018) – Junior Laura van der Doorn scored the only goal of the game with 3:30 remaining in the first overtime to lift Southern New Hampshire University to a 1-0 triumph over Stonehill College, ranked No. 3 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

Senior Melanie Rennie totaled seven saves, including a pair in overtime, for her first shutout of the season to lead Southern New Hampshire to its first in in seven encounters with Stonehill. van der Doorn's fourth goal of the year ended the contest with 3:30 remaining in the first overtime, when she drove home a corner pass from sophomore Helene Servais.

Senior Sara Freedman finished with five stops in the Stonehill goal. The Skyhawks held a 17-13 edge in shots and 8-7 for penalty corners, but were unable to push a goal across the line. Rennie made two quick stops on shots by senior All-American Kacie Smith and Carly Andersen with under five minutes to go in the overtime.

Stonehill (7-3, 3-2 NE10) is back in action on Wednesday, when it visits Saint Anselm College for an NE10 clash at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks return to W.B. Mason Stadium on Tuesday, October 23, to host American International College at 7 p.m. SNHU (5-5, 3-2 NE10) hosts American International on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
