Healy leads Skyhawks to third straight win with goal and assist

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 23, 2016) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 5 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, picked up its third straight win with a 3-1 decision over Southern New Hampshire University in a non-conference field hockey matchup at Larkin Field this afternoon.

Senior co-captain Shea Healy (Greenfield, Massachusetts/Pioneer Valley) led Stonehill with a goal and assist, while junior Alexandria Sylvia (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) and sophomore Carly Andersen (Cheshire, Connecticut/Canterbury School) also netted goals for the Skyhawks. Sophomore Sara Freedman (Hopkinton, Massachusetts/Hopkinton) finished with one save in the Stonehill cage as the Skyhawks posted a 10-3 advantage in shots, while penalty corners were even at 6-6.

Freshman Alison Hildreth (Hampton, New Hampshire/Winnacunnet) scored Southern New Hampshire's goal, while sophomore Melanie Rennie (Madison, Connecticut/Daniel Hand) had three saves in the Penmen goal.

Healy had a hand in both of Stonehill's first half goals with a goal and assist. She opened the scoring 10:26 into the contest with a shot from the top left of the circle off a penalty corner that deflected in off Rennie's foot. Healy turned provider for Sylvia's fifth goal of the season at 17:58 when she tipped in a drive from the top of the circle off another corner.

Southern New Hampshire drew back within a goal 15:25 into the second half when Hildreth potted her second goal of the year off a corner when she deflected a pass from freshman Maaike Gerkema (Driebergen, The Netherlands) off a corner on the first shot on goal of the afternoon for the Penmen. Andersen restored Stonehill's two goal lead seven minutes later with her eighth goal of the season off pass from sophomore Kacie Smith (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) at 57:48.

Stonehill (12-3, 8-2 NE-10) is back in action on Tuesday when it visits Merrimack College for a key Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 4:30 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (9-8, 5-6 NE-10) rounds out its regular season next Saturday when it hosts Adelphi University at 1 p.m.
