Andersen Named NE-10 Rookie of the Week

Cheshire, Connecticut, freshman is third Skyhawk to earn award this season

EASTON, Mass. (October 5, 2015) – Stonehill College freshman forward Carly Andersen (Cheshire, Connecticut/Canterbury School) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for field hockey the league announced today.

Andersen, who earns the weekly honors for the first time, is the third Stonehill freshman to earn the award this fall and it marks the fourth straight week a Skyhawk has been tabbed as Rookie of the Week. Classmate Kacie Smith (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) earned the honors back to back weeks on September 14 and 21 and then Sara Freedman (Hopkinton, Massachusetts/Hopkinton) collected the award last week along with Goalkeeper of the Week honors.

Andersen posted a pair of goals for four points in a 1-1 week for Stonehill. Both goals came in the second half of Tuesday's 8-1 win at Southern New Hampshire University. It marked her first collegiate multi-goal game as she helped the Skyhawks break the game open. She scored her first goal of the night in the 47th minute to give Stonehill a 6-0 lead and then her second capped the scoring in the contest with 2:07 remaining.

Andersen has appeared in nine games for Stonehill in her freshman season and has scored three goals for six points. All three goals have come in the Skyhawks two wins over Southern New Hampshire as she netted her first career goal in a 10-0 win over the Penmen on September 12.

Stonehill (6-4, 4-1 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it visits Franklin Pierce University for a Northeast-10 matchup at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks visit rival Bentley University on Friday at 4 p.m., before returning home to host Saint Anselm College at W.B. Mason Stadium next Tuesday, October 13, at 7 p.m.
