Senior All-American posts two goals and assist to lead Skyhawks
EASTON, Mass. (September 23, 2015) – Senior All-American Erika Kelly (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) had a hand in all three goals to lead Stonehill College to a 3-0 triumph over Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Timothy J. Coughlin '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium tonight.
Kelly led Stonehill to its second straight win with two goals and an assist, running her Northeast-10 leading scoring total to 20 points through the first six games of the season. She has now logged at least a point in seven straight games dating back to last season. Kelly's program-record 172 career points now ranks 11th in NCAA Division II history, just seven points shy of cracking the all-time top ten, while her program-record 78 career goals rank ninth all-time in Division II history and tied for third all-time in NE-10 history.
Junior Sarah Morse (Westminster, Massachusetts/Oakmont Regional) chipped in with a goal for Stonehill. Freshman Sara Freedman (Hopkinton, Massachusetts/Hopkinton) registered four saves to log her first career shutout in the Skyhawks goal. Stonehill finished with a 13-12 edge in shots, including 10-7 in the second half, while Adelphi held a 10-7 advantage in penalty corners. Sophomore Amanda Gargiulo (Westbury, New York/W.T. Clarke) posted seven saves in the Adelphi cage.

Morse put Stonehill in front 12:47 into the game when she tipped in a drive from the top of the arc off her own corner by Kelly. Freedman made two first half saves to preserve the lead into the second half and then Kelly netted a pair of unassisted markers to put the game away. She struck first when she put home a rebound of her own shot at 54:33, and then added her Conference-leading seventh goal of the year less than 12 minutes later with a classy individual effort in front of the goal on a backhand flick into the upper right corner of the net at 66:04.
Stonehill (3-3, 2-0 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Limestone College, ranked No. 6 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, for a non-conference matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium at noon. The game is the Skyhawks Play for the Cure Game with the team collecting donations for the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Adelphi (3-3, 0-2 NE-10) visits Saint Michael's College on Saturday at noon.
