Five Skyhawks Earn NE-10 Postseason Honors

EASTON, Mass. (November 28, 2014) – Five members of the Northeast-10 Conference Champion Stonehill College field hockey program have earned postseason honors as selected by the NE-10's 12 head coaches.

Stonehill has placed two student-athletes on both the All-Northeast-10 first and second teams, with senior Emily Sideris (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) and junior Erika Kelly (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) earning first team honors, while juniors Lauren Giordano (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) and Elizabeth Thornton (Needham, Massachusetts/Needham) were both named to the second team. Freshman Alexandria Sylvia (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) rounds out the postseason honorees with a spot on the NE-10 All-Rookie Team. Stonehill has now had 47 All-Northeast-10 selections all-time, including 21 on the first team, and placed ten first year players on the NE-10's All-Rookie Team since the Conference started the award in 2008.

Sideris earns All-Northeast-10 honors for the third straight year, being named to the first team for the first time. She has started 15 of the 16 games she has played this season and totaled six goals and three assists for 15 points. She has scored two gamewinning goals and posted three goals and two assists for eight points in 11 Northeast-10 games. Sideris netted the lone goal in the Skyhawks 1-0 win over LIU Post in the NE-10 Championship game, and had a season-best three points with a goal and assist in a win over Southern New Hampshire University on October 4.

Sideris, a two-time Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America second team selection, has played 61 games over her career at Stonehill. She has posted 18 goals and 11 assists for 47 points, including five gamewinning goals. Sideris, who earned a spot on the NE-10 All-Championship team as a junior, has been named to the Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad all three years to date, earning NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status all six semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll four semesters.

Kelly earns All-Northeast-10 first team honors for the second-straight year. She has started all 19 games played and leads Stonehill with 25 goals to go with five assists for a team-high 55 points, ranking second among NE-10 leaders for goals and points, netting a team-high five gamewinning goals, including two in overtime, and converting 3-of-4 penalty stroke attempts. Kelly also ranks second nationally in Division II for goals and points, posting four hat tricks this fall. Her goal and point totals are the second-highest single season totals in program history behind her own program-records of 38 goals and 78 points in 2013. Kelly posted a season-high nine points with a season-best four goals to go with an assist in the Skyhawks' 8-7 overtime win against 8th-ranked East Stroudsburg University on September 7.

Kelly, a consensus first team All-American as a sophomore, has broken the career records at Stonehill for goals and points scored this season, posting 71 goals and nine assists for 151 points in 59 career games played. She has converted 15 gamewinning goals and 6-of-8 penalty strokes over her career. Kelly was named to the NE-10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman and she ranks fifth in Northeast-10 history for goals scored and eighth in scoring. She has also collected NE-10 Player of the Week honors five times over her career, including a pair of awards this fall.

Giordano earns All-Northeast-10 honors for the first time with her second team honors. She ranks second on the team in scoring with 11 goals and four assists for 26 points, netting four gamewinning goals, one in overtime. Giordano ranks tenth among NE-10 leaders for goals and points. She earned NE-10 Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career on September 8 and posted a season-high six points with two goals and two assists in a win over Southern New Hampshire on October 4.

Giordano, an NE-10 All-Rookie Team selection in 2013, has appeared in 41 games over two seasons at Stonehill. She has registered 21 goals and seven assists for 49 points, with five gamewinning goals over her career. Giordano also earned a spot on the synapsesports.com Division II All-Rookie Team last season.

Thornton also earned All-Northeast-10 honors for the first time with her second team selection. She has started all 20 games this fall and posted seven goals and an assist for 15 points from the midfield, netting one gamewinner. Her goal at Merrimack College on November 12 forced overtime in the final minute and she also potted a goal in the Skyhawks' 3-1 win over Adelphi University in the NE-10 semifinals.

Thornton has appeared in 51 games over her three year career at Stonehill and posted ten goals and three assists for 23 points, with the one gamewinner. She has been named to the Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad each of her first two years, earning NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll status all four semesters to date.

Sylvia earns a spot on the NE-10 All-Rookie Team, having made an immediate impact in her freshman season for Stonehill. She has appeared in all 20 games and ranks third on the team with ten goals to go with an assist for 21 points, chipping in with one gamewinning goal. Sylvia earned NE-10 Rookie of the Week honors on September 20 and posted a season-high five points with two goals and an assist in a win over Southern New Hampshire on October 4. She potted a goal in her collegiate debut against Merrimack on September 5 and also matched her season-high with a pair of goals in a win at Southern Connecticut State University on November 1.

Stonehill (17-3, 9-2 NE-10), ranked fifth in the final regular season Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II poll, won its second Northeast-10 Tournament Championship in program history with a 1-0 win over 4th-ranked LIU Post on November 22. The Skyhawks have earned their sixth NCAA Tournament bid and are the top seed from the North Region, facing second-seeded LIU Post in a national semifinal on Thursday, December 4, at 4 p.m., at the NCAA Division II Fall Championships Festival at Trager Stadium on the campus of the University of Louisville.
