Masionis double leads Yellow Jackets to sixth straight win

EASTON, Mass. (November 8, 2014) –  American International College extended its winning streak to six games and put an end to a season-high matching five game win streak for Stonehill College, ranked fourth in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, with a 2-1 victory in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Senior Night at Timothy J. Coughlin Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium tonight.

Senior Jenna Masionis (Ashland, Massachusetts/Ashland) scored both American International College goals in the victory. Junior Ainslee Penfield (Greenfield, Massachusetts/Northfield Mount Herman) stopped all four shots on goal she faced in a scoreless 67:37 in the Yellow Jackets cage. American International held a 16-15 edge in shots for the night, while Stonehill held a 17-4 advantage for penalty corners but only placed six shots on goal in the game.

Junior All-American Erika Kelly (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) was credited with the lone Stonehill goal, while senior Elizabeth Genovese (Street, Maryland/North Harford) posted five saves in the Skyhawks goal.

Masionis scored the only goal of the first half when she knocked in a shot from the center of the cage off a deflected pass from the left side 19:41 into the game. With Penfield waiting to get back on the field after serving a two minute green card penalty just prior to the end of the first half, Kelly centered the ball from a low angle on the left side that deflected off junior goalkeeper Erin Maroney (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee Comp) and into the cage 2:23 into the second half for Kelly's team-leading 22nd goal of the season.

Masionis put AIC back in front with 11:11 remaining in regulation when she knocked in a loose ball at the goal line off a rebound on the right side of the cage for her 17th goal of the season. Junior Lauren Giordano (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) had a shot saved in the final minute and the Skyhawks ended the game with a corner opportunity, but were unable to get a shot off, ending the game.

Stonehill (13-3, 7-2 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday when it visits Merrimack College for a Northeast-10 matchup at 4:30 p.m. American International (10-6, 6-3 NE-10) hosts 5th-ranked LIU Post on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
