Skyhawks win third straight with three different goal scorers
EASTON, Mass. (October 17, 2014) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 4 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, got goals from three different players to claim a key 3-2 triumph over 6th-ranked LIU Post in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Timothy J. Coughlin Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium tonight.
Senior Jennifer Foley (Holden, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy), junior Lauren Giordano (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) and freshman Alexandria Sylvia (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) all scored unassisted goals to lead Stonehill to its first win over LIU Post since 2009 and first at home since 2003. Senior Elizabeth Genovese (Street, Maryland/North Harford) made two saves to preserve the win for the Skyhawks who are winners of three straight to move to the top of the NE-10 standings.
Senior Stephanie Ruhle (Wanaque, New Jersey/Lakeland Regional) scored both goals for LIU Post. Sophomore Ericka Parks (Nesconset, New York/Smithtown East) finished with seven saves in the Pioneers cage, including five in the first half which finished level at a goal apiece. LIU Post registered a 15-14 edge in shots for the night, but Stonehill had a 10-7 advantage in penalty corners, including 5-2 in the second half.

Foley gave Stonehill the early advantage when she fired a shot into an open net on the right side off a deflected pass from senior All-American Emily Sideris (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) for her third goal of the season 16:22 into the contest. Ruhle equalized just over five minutes before halftime when she knocked in a loose ball behind Genovese off a rebound following a corner at 29:11 to send the game into the intermission knotted at 1-1.
Sylvia put Stonehill back in front 10:03 into the second half when she patiently knocked in a high rebound in behind Parks off a deflection for her sixth marker of the season. Giordano provided what proved to be an important insurance goal when she poked in a loose ball in front of the goal with 5:53 remaining for her ninth goal of the season.
LIU Post drew a goal back after time expired when Ruhle tapped in her second marker of the night (third of the season) off a pass from post grad Dani Crouse (Westville, South Africa) from a penalty corner by sophomore Stephanie Mocerino (Andover, New Jersey/Newton).
Stonehill (8-1, 3-0 NE-10) is right back on the field on Tuesday night when it wraps up a five game home stand by hosting Franklin Pierce University for an NE-10 matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m. LIU Post (7-2, 3-1 NE-10) hosts Assumption College on Tuesday for a Northeast-10 clash at 4 p.m.
