EASTON, Mass. (December 16, 2013) – Two first year members of the Stonehill College field hockey team have earned Division II All-Rookie Team honors from synapsesports.com.

Sophomore forward Lauren Giordano (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) and freshman midfielder Shea Healy (Greenfield, Mass./Pioneer Valley) earn the honors as two of the top first year field hockey student-athletes at the Division II level. The duo was honored earlier this season with All-Rookie team status from the Northeast-10 Conference.

Giordano enjoyed a breakout season for Stonehill this fall, appearing in 21 games, starting one, and finishing second on the team with her ten goals to go with three assists for 23 points, ranking third on the team in scoring. She finished the year ranked tied for 11th among NE-10 leaders for goals and 16th for points. Giordano netted one game-winning goal and earned NE-10 Rookie of the Week on October 7 and notched her first career hat trick in a 7-0 win over Dowling College on October 27. She also ranked second on the team with 14 points and six goals, adding two assists, in ten NE-10 games this fall.

Healy appeared in 21 games as a true freshman and posted a goal and two assists for four points for the year. She scored her first collegiate goal in an October 19 win over Southern Connecticut State and added assists in wins over Franklin Pierce University (10/23) and Dowling (10/27). Healy played all ten NE-10 games this fall and contributed a goal and assist for three points.

Stonehill finished the 2013 season with an 18-4 record overall, including an 8-2 clip in the Northeast-10. The Skyhawks are ranked fifth in the final regular season Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II and earned the fifth NCAA Tournament bid in program history after reaching the NE-10 Championship for a fifth time. Stonehill opened the season with a program-record 16-straight wins and fell just a win shy of the single-season record of 19 set in 2005.
