Davis, Ingersoll and Sheehan will represent Skyhawks at annual All-Star Game
EASTON, Mass. (November 19, 2013) – Three members of the Stonehill College field hockey team have been selected to represent the Skyhawks with the North Region All-Stars at the annual Front Rush/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II North/South Senior All-Star Game to held in conjunction with the 2013 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championships on Saturday, November 23, at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in Virginia Beach at 12:30 p.m.
Seniors Kelsey Davis (Gardner, Mass./Gardner), Devin Ingersoll (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) and Gina Sheehan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) will represent Stonehill at the annual event which places senior All-Stars from the North and South regions in Division II in an All-Star Game. The three selections are the most for the Skyhawks since four competed in the 2010 Senior All-Star Game during the NCAA Division II Fall Festival in Louisville, Ky.
Sheehan, the Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a first team All-Northeast-10 selection this fall, led a Stonehill defensive unit which ranks fourth in the NE-10 and ninth nationally in Division II with a 1.78 team goals against average. The Skyhawks defense limited opponents to 11.5 shots, including 7.6 on goal, and 6.7 penalty corners per game with three shutouts. Sheehan recorded one defensive save this season and chipped in with a pair of assists.
Sheehan, who was named to both the womensfieldhockey.com Division II and NE-10 All-Rookie teams as a freshman, started all 84 of Stonehill's games over her four year career at the College. She has dished out five career assists, posted four defensive saves and been a key part of a Skyhawks defensive unit which is regularly ranked among the best in the Conference. Sheehan has earned Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA National Academic Squad honors as a sophomore and junior and been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll all six semesters so far and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll five semesters.
Ingersoll, a Longstreth/NFHCA All-America second team selection as a junior and a two-time All-NE-10 first team pick, started all 22 games this season and led the team with 11 assists to go with five goals for 21 points. Two of her five goals this fall are game winners and she has also chipped in with two defensive saves. Ingersoll ranks sixth in the NE-10 and eighth nationally for assists, marking the third-highest single-season total in program history. She posted a season-high two goals in a 4-2 win at Saint Michael's College on September 14 and matched that output in the Skyhawks NCAA Tournament first round matchup with 7th-ranked Merrimack College.
Ingersoll, who has also started all 84 of Stonehill's games over her four year career, earned Capital One Academic All-District and NE-10 Academic All-Conference honors for the first time last year. She has totaled 24 goals and 20 assists for 68 points over her collegiate career with seven game winners. Ingersoll posted a team-high 25 points her junior year with a team-best 12 goals to go with one assist. She finished her career ranked sixth in program history for assists, ninth for career goals and tenth in career scoring.
Ingersoll was named the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2010 and was also a womensfieldhockey.com Division II and NE-10 All-Rookie team selection. She has been named to the Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA National Academic Squad three years to date and has earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status all six semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll five times.
Davis earned All-Northeast-10 honors for the first time with her second team selection this fall. She is second on the team with her career-high eight assists this season to go with a pair of goals for 12 points. Davis has also posted a defensive save and recorded a six game point streak early in the season.
Davis, an NE-10 All-Rookie team selection as a freshman has been a solid two-way contributor for Stonehill at both the offensive and defensive ends. She has started all 84 games the Skyhawks have played over her four year career and she has contributed ten goals and 18 assists for 38 career points. Davis contributed a career-best 14 points in 2012, with a career-high four goals, including a gamewinner, and six assists. She has earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status five semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll four semesters.
Stonehill finished the 2013 season with an 18-4 record overall, including an 8-2 clip in the Northeast-10. The Skyhawks are ranked fifth in the final regular season Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II and earned the fifth NCAA Tournament bid in program history after reaching the NE-10 Championship for a fifth time. Stonehill opened the season with a program-record 16-straight wins and fell just a win shy of the single-season record of 19 set in 2005.
