Stonehill Tops Assumption, 2-1

Davis nets gamewinner with less than ten minutes left in regulation

WORCESTER, Mass. (October 6, 2012) – Stonehill College claimed a key 2-1 victory over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Multi-Sport Stadium this afternoon.

Junior Kelsey Davis' (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) goal with 8:16 remaining in regulation lifted Stonehill to its second straight win, third straight in NE-10 play. She scored off a penalty corner, with sophomore Jennifer Foley (Holden, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) collecting the assist.

Freshman Erika Kelly (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) scored Stonehill's opening goal, with a feed from former high school teammate Emily Sideris (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) 17:36 into the contest.

Sophomore Elizabeth Genovese (Street, Md./North Harford) faced just one shot on goal, three shots total, in the cage for Stonehill. The Skyhawks posted a 21-3 advantage for shots in the contest, including 10-0 in the first half, and finished with a 12-6 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore Lauren Neilan (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) registered nine saves in the Assumption goal.

Freshman Mary O'Neil (Willington, Conn./Edwin O. Smith) scored for Assumption, taking a pass from junior Bethany Rocha (Lakeville, Mass./Bishop Stang), and netting an equalizing goal at 50:36.

Stonehill (7-6, 3-2 NE-10) is right back in action on Monday when it visits 7th-ranked Merrimack College for a key NE-10 matchup at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Wednesday to host Southern Connecticut State University at 6 p.m. Assumption (7-7, 4-3 NE-10) visits Bentley University for a key Conference clash next Saturday at 10 a.m.
