Nelson a Consensus All-American for Second-Straight Year

Shrewsbury, Mass., native earns first team All-America honors from NFHCA, selected to All-America second team by womensfieldhockey.com

EASTON, Mass. (November 21, 2011) – Stonehill College senior forward Kathryn Nelson (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) is a consensus All-American for the second-straight year after her selection to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) All-America first team, while being named to the womensfieldhockey.com All-America second team squad. It marks the 16th All-America selection in program history for Stonehill.

Nelson, who earned second team All-America honors from both organizations as a junior, collects first team honors for the first time in her career by the NFHCA. She led Stonehill with 12 goals (8th NE-10), including two game winners, and seven assists (8th) for 31 points (7th) in her final collegiate season. She ranks 20th nationally in Division II for points per game (1.55), 28th for goals per game and 25th for assists. Nelson finished with seven goals and an assist for 15 points in ten Conference matches.

Nelson, a two-time All-Northeast-10 Conference selection with her first team honors this fall, became the third player in program history to surpass 100 career points this season and finished her career ranked third in program history with 103 points and 45 goals to go with 13 assists in 82 career games played. Nelson was an NE-10 All-Rookie team selection as a freshman in 2008 and has netted 12 game winning goals over her career.

Nelson has been recognized for her work in the classroom as well as the field of play by being voted a Capital One Academic All-District I at large selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America following her junior season and is a three time NFHCA Division II Academic Squad member.

Stonehill finished its season with a 10-10 record overall, including a 4-6 mark in Northeast-10 play. The Skyhawks reached the NE-10 Tournament for the 14th season, advancing to the semifinal round for the fourth straight year.
