NEW HAVEN, Conn. (October 12, 2011) – Stonehill College came back from a goal down twice and notched its third overtime victory of the season with a 3-2 triumph over Southern Connecticut State University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Jess Dow Field tonight.

Freshman forward Jennifer Foley (Holden, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) scored the winning goal 1:26 into overtime to lift Stonehill to its second-straight win. Senior All-American Kathryn Nelson (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) posted a goal and assist for the Skyhawks, while junior Brittany Ford (Augusta, Maine/Cony) also netted a goal.

Freshman goaltender Elizabeth Genovese (Street, Md./North Harford) made six saves in the cage to give Stonehill the chance for a comeback. The Skyhawks finished with a 24-16 advantage for shots in the game, including 19-8 after halftime, and posted a 14-10 edge in penalty corners. Freshman Nicole Scionti (Deep River, Conn./Valley Regional) posted nine stops in goal for Southern Connecticut.

Southern took its first lead at 24:21 when Fisher netted her ninth goal of the season off a pass from senior Aleida Mapes (Springvale, Maine/Sanford) during a scramble in front of the goal. Stonehill knotted the score after time expired in the first half as Nelson buried a corner pass from sophomore Kelsey Davis (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) for her team-leading tenth goal of the year.

Southern Connecticut regained the lead at 55:04 when Cebry tipped in a pass from Fisher along the goal line. Stonehill leveled the contest again just 2:03 later as Ford scored her first goal of the season at 57:07.

The game remained tied until the overtime session and Stonehill struck quickly as Nelson sent Foley in one on one with Scionti with a long pass from the right wing. Foley ended the game with her sixth goal of the season (third gamewinner). It marks the Skyhawks third overtime road win of the season and all three winning goals have come within the first two minutes of extra time – two off the stick of Nelson.

Nelson's three points tonight give her 97 for her career as she moves into sole possession of third place in program history with 43 career goals. She is now tied for third on Stonehill's career scoring list as well with former teammate and All-American Jackie Ladino, '10, with 97 points.
