Field Hockey Recognized for Having Top Team GPA at NCAA Championships

Skyhawks 3.25 team grade point average tops among NCAA semifinalists

EASTON, Mass. (December 10, 2010) –Stonehill College received the team academic award for field hockey during the closing ceremonies for the 2010 NCAA Division II Fall Championships Festival. The Skyhawks were rewarded for having the top team grade point average among the four field hockey programs competing at the championships.

Stonehill, under the direction of third-year head coach Shelly Morris, boasts a 3.25 team GPA, tops among eventual national champions University of Massachusetts Lowell, runners up Shippensburg University and fellow semifinalist Bloomsburg University. It marks the first year the NCAA has issued a team GPA award at its championships.

Stonehill seniors Courtney Foley (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) and Lindsey Pinkham (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) were also honored by being named to the NCAA Championships All-Tournament team.

Stonehill (16-7, 9-1 NE-10) wrapped up its season last week at the Fall Championships Festival with a semifinal round loss to UMass Lowell. The Skyhawks were ranked fifth in the final Kookaburra/NFHCA Division II poll and finished second in the NE-10 standings to the River Hawks.
