Nelson nets two goals, Osier notches fifth shutout to lead Skyhawks

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (November 2, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in this week's Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, returned to the win column with a 2-0 victory at Merrimack College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Warrior Field this afternoon.

Junior Kathryn Nelson (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) scored a goal in each half for Stonehill, while senior goalkeeper Courtney Osier (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) made five saves to make them stand up and post her fifth shutout of the season (16th career). The Skyhawks posted a 23-11 advantage in shots for the contest, including an 18-5 margin on goal.

Sophomore Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, Mass./Mashpee) posted 14 saves in goal for Merrimack, including nine in the opening half.

Nelson opened the scoring less than 12 minutes before halftime with her first unassisted tally at 23:27. The Skyhawks leading scorer added an insurance goal with her 17th of the season with 3:04 remaining in regulation.

Stonehill (12-5, 8-1 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it visits Southern Connecticut State University for its final non-conference matchup of the regular season at 2 p.m. Merrimack (6-10, 3-6 NE-10) hosts Saint Anselm College on Saturday at 7 p.m.
