Nelson leads comeback from 2-0 halftime deficit as Skyhawks win fourth-straight
WALTHAM, Mass. (October 5, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh in this week's Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, stormed back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to claim a 3-2 overtime triumph against rival Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action tonight.
Junior forward Kathryn Nelson (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) led the Stonehill comeback with a pair of goals, including the game-winner 6:20 into overtime. Senior back Laura Noce (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) assisted on both Nelson markers, while classmate Courtney Foley (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) also added a goal for the Skyhawks.
Senior Courtney Osier (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) gave Stonehill a chance for a comeback with four saves in goal, including one in overtime. Sophomore Julia Powell (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) stopped 11 shots (seven second half) in the cage for Bentley. Stonehill finished with a 25-8 advantage in shots, including a commanding 17-1 margin after halftime (15-0 second half), and controlled penalty corners, 12-0 (10-0 second half).

Sophomores Beth Maguire (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) and Nicole Dion (Lunenburg, Mass./Lunenburg) scored first half goals for Bentley, while senior Devan Weed (Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) assisted on both markers.
Trailing 2-0 after 35 minutes of play, Stonehill roared to life in the second half by out-shooting Bentley 15-0 and posting a 10-0 advantage on penalty corners. Foley sparked the comeback when she scored her second goal of the season with a drive past Powell off a Lindsey Pinkham (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) corner with 16:16 left in regulation.
Nelson's first goal equalized the contest less than five minutes later, off a Noce pass, with 11:29 remaining. She capped the comeback with her team-leading 13th goal of the season on breakaway off another Noce pass at 76:20. Nelson has now scored four goals against the Falcons this season after netting both Stonehill goals in a 2-1 win in Easton last month.
Bentley scored the first two goals of the night as Maguire opened the scoring with her fifth of the season, assisted by Weed, 11:28 into the contest. Dion doubled the Falcons advantage at 20:55 when she took a pass from Weed and slotted in her third goal of the year.
Stonehill (7-4, 3-0 NE-10) is off until next Wednesday, October 13, when it hosts American International College at W.B. Mason Stadium at 4 p.m. Bentley (4-5, 1-1 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it visits Franklin Pierce University at 1 p.m.
