Skyhawks net two second half goals, defense holds hosts to one shot

COLCHESTER, Vt. (October 2, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked tenth in this week's Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, scored two second half goals and held Saint Michael's College to just one shot in posting a 2-0 victory in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Duffy Field today.

Stonehill got second half goals from senior Lindsey Pinkham (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) and junior Laura Menke (Greenland, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas). Freshman Devin Ingersoll (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) dished her sixth assist of the season to notch a point in her third-straight contest.

Senior Courtney Osier (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) was untested in goal to post her second shutout of the season (13th career) as her defense in front of her, led by seniors Laura Noce (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) and Courtney Foley (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) held Saint Michael's to just one second half shot. Junior Jackie Stacey (West Windsor, Vt./Woodstock Union) finished with four saves in the cage for the Purple Knights. The Skyhawks finished with an 11-1 advantage in shots and a 6-2 margin for penalty corners.

After a scoreless first half, Menke scored the only goal Stonehill would need, off an Ingersoll pass, for her second marker of the season at 44:29. The Skyhawks got an insurance goal with 2:44 left in regulation when Pinkham poked in a rebound for her fifth goal of the season, marking her third-straight match with a goal.
