NEW HAVEN, Conn.-- Goals by juniors Caitlin Gleason (New Boston, N.H.) and Aly Boulis (Lincoln, R.I.) that sandwiched a marker off the stick of sophomore Laura Nimon (Gardiner, Maine) lifted sixth-ranked Stonehill to a 3-1 Northeast-10 Conference field hockey victory over Southern Connecticut Saturday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.

Gleason's unassisted tally just 4:56 into the contest (her ninth of the season) gave the visiting Skyhawks (11-3, 9-2 Northeast-10) a 1-0 advantage at the break, and Nimon converted a feed from freshman Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass.) just 4:25 into the second half to extend Stonehill's lead to 2-0. Freshman Heather Hudson (North Branford, Conn.) sliced the host Owls' (4-11, 4-8 Northeast-10) deficit in half in the 45th minute of play when she converted a pass from sophomore Grace Martha (Cheshire, Conn.), but Boulis took a feed from freshman Claire Hourihan (East Amherst, N.Y.) to net her ninth goal of the season with 3:19 remaining in the match to account for the final score.

Junior Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) made one save to pick up her 11th win of the season in goal for Stonehill, while senior Casey Sanford (North Haven, Conn.) made seven stops in net for Southern Connecticut as the Skyhawks outshot the Owls by an 11-2 margin for the match. The Skyhawks retained a one-game lead in the loss column for first place in the Northeast-10 standings over Bentley with the triumph.

Stonehill heads to North Andover, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Merrimack in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Southern Connecticut travels to Smithfield, R.I. on Wednesday afternoon to square off with Bryant in a Northeast-10 contest at 4:00 p.m.
