WORCESTER, Mass.-- Sophomore Jill Hughes (Brownsville, Vt.) netted a goal and an assist to lead Assumption to a 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference field hockey victory over fourth-ranked Stonehill Wednesday evening at Multi-Purpose Stadium.

The host Greyhounds (4-8, 4-6 Northeast-10) struck for both of their tallies in less than two minutes late in the first half, as freshman Sarah Ranieri (Bellingham, Mass.) converted a Hughes feed off a penalty corner with 4:22 to play in the half for a 1-0 lead, and Hughes took a pass from freshman Michelle Pasquale (Shrewsbury, Mass.) with 2:23 remaining before intermission to close out the scoring.

Graduate student Brandi Guertin (Bellingham, Mass.) made that stand up in goal with 11 saves to collect the shutout for Assumption, while junior Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) made a pair of stops in net for the visiting Skyhawks (7-3, 5-2 Northeast-10). Stonehill outshot the Greyhounds by a 17-7 margin for the contest, including a 7-0 edge in the final 35 minutes alone, and the Skyhawks amassed 26 penalty corners to the hosts' four but were unable to convert.

Stonehill hosts Bryant in a Northeast-10 outing on Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Assumption hosts C.W. Post in a non-league match on Sunday afternoon at Multi-Purpose Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
