WALTHAM, Mass.-- Sophomore Colleen McLaughlin’s (Methuen, Mass.) goal with just over 21 minutes remaining proved to be the game-winner in lifting seventh-ranked Stonehill to a 2-1 Northeast-10 Conference field hockey victory over fourth-ranked Bentley Thursday evening at Bentley Field.

McLaughlin converted a feed from freshman Laura Nimon (Gardiner, Maine) in the 48th minute of play to give the visiting Skyhawks (10-2, 8-2 Northeast-10) their sixth straight victory and complete a regular-season sweep of the host Falcons (10-3, 9-3 Northeast-10), as Stonehill picked up its first-ever triumph on Bentley’s home turf in snapping the 2004 NCAA Division II national runner-up Falcons’ 17-match regular season home winning streak that dated back to September 4, 2004.

Bentley took the opening draw and scored just 55 seconds into the match when junior Amanda Deppe (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) converted a feed from fellow junior Mary Rogers (Watertown, Mass.), but Stonehill evened matters in the 16th minute when sophomore Aly Boulis (Lincoln, R.I.) took a pass from fellow sophomore Ashley Freeman (White River Junction, Vt.) for her seventh goal of the season, setting up McLaughlin’s heroics that gave the Skyhawks their third win of the season over a nationally-ranked opponent.

Sophomore Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) picked up her 10th win of the season in goal for Stonehill with a six-save effort, while senior Kristin Johnson (Reading, Mass.) made a pair of stops in net for Bentley as the Falcons outshot the Skyhawks by a slim 12-11 margin for the match.

Stonehill hosts ninth-ranked Southern Connecticut in a key Northeast-10 match on Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium beginning at Noon, while Bentley travels to Millersville, Pa. on Saturday afternoon to take on Millersville in a non-league outing that begins at 1:00 p.m.
