Stonehill College freshman midfielder Kerri Sullivan was named earlier today as the 2005 Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey Freshman of the Year in a vote of the leagues coaches. Additionally, five members of Head Coach Pam Arpes squad earned spots on the 2005 Northeast-10 all-conference squads for both their athletic and academic accomplishments.
A native of Goffstown, N.H. and a graduate of Goffstown High School, Sullivan has netted six goals and three assists for 15 points in 18 matches to date for the Skyhawks, recording a pair of game-winning goals in the process. Sullivan becomes the third Stonehill player to cop Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year accolades in field hockey, joining former Skyhawk standouts Cindy Pultz (2000) and Erica Marois (2001) in that category.
Senior Julie Michalos (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) and junior All-America Kelly Latendresse (Sidney, Maine/Messalonskee) earned first-team all-conference accolades for their performance on the field, and each player earned a place on the 2005 Northeast-10 Field Hockey Academic All-Conference team for their performance in the classroom. Michalos has recorded seven goals and five assists for 19 points to date with three game-winners, while Latendresse shares the team scoring lead with nine goals and 10 assists for 28 points. Michalos has posted a 3.78 grade point average as a Criminal Justice major at Stonehill, while Latendresse has notched a 3.31 GPA as an International Studies major.
Senior Lindsay Breen (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) joined Michalos and Latendresse in earning first team all-conference accolades, as she has anchored a Stonehill defensive unit that has more victories (16) than goals allowed (15) to date. The Skyhawks have held opponents to one or fewer goals on 15 occasions this season with eight shutouts, and she registered her first career point earlier in the year in a win over American International.
Sophomore Caitlin Gleason (New Boston, N.H./Goffstown) and junior Courtney Campbell (Reading, Mass./Reading) earned second team all-Northeast-10 honors for their performances to date, as Gleason shares the Skyhawk scoring lead with Latendresse in netting 11 goals and six assists for 28 points, as three of her tallies have been game-winners. Campbell has netted four goals and eight assists for 16 points to date, as she ranks third on the team in assists, and she has also contributed to Stonehills defensive prowess in the backfield.
Stonehill, ranked sixth in the STX/NFHCA Division II national poll, has set a school single-season record for victories with 16 triumphs to date, as the Skyhawks take a school-record 12-match winning streak into Saturdays Northeast-10 semi-final round contest with seventh-ranked Bentley at UMass Lowells Cushing Field in Lowell, Mass. beginning at 3:00 p.m. EDT.
