#12 Assumption Shuts Out Football

Greyhounds score on first nine possessions on way to victory

WORCESTER, Mass. (October 28, 2017) – Assumption College, ranked No. 12 in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II poll, scored on its first nine possessions of the game on its way to a 68-0 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference football action at Multi-Sport Field today.

Assumption posted 426 yards of total offense, while limiting Stonehill to just 234 yards by forcing five turnovers for the afternoon. Sophomore running back Khaleed Exum-Strong (Norwichtown, Connecticut/Norwich Free Academy) scored a pair of touchdowns for the Greyhounds, posting 105 rushing yards on five touches, including a 79-yard touchdown run two-minutes into the second quarter that sparked a 34-point frame to break the game open. Junior Cody Williams (Wilbraham, Massachusetts/Springfield Central) also scored two touchdowns for Assumption, while classmate Deonte Harris (Baltimore, Maryland/Archbishop Curley) scored on a 63-yard reception and a 77-yard punt return in the second quarter. Senior Cole Tracy (Camarillo, California/Newbury Park) delivered four field goals, three from 40-plus yards out, including a 53-yarder with 2:22 remaining in the first quarter.

Junior Ja'Quez Johnson (Brick, New Jersey/Brick Township) led an Assumption defense which forced four fumbles, with one of those, while finishing with a team-high nine tackles (all solo) and a pass breakup. Senior Charles Williams III (Hartford, Connecticut/A.I. Prince Technical) added eight stops (one solo), including 1.0 for a loss of a yard, a forced fumble, fumble recovery, pass breakup and quarterback hurry. Sophomore Mason Spence (Boston, Massachusetts/Episcopal) chipped in with three tackles (one solo), an interception, which led to a touchdown and a 65-yard fumble recovery.

Senior Malachi Baugh (Stoughton, Massachusetts/Stoughton) rushed for 59 yards on 15 carries for Stonehill, while classmate Matt Foltz (Mount Joy, Pennsylvania/The Hill School) completed 17-of-25 passes for 118 yards. Sophomore Andrew Jamiel (Yarmouth, Massachusetts/Dennis-Yarmouth) had 57 of those yards on six receptions for the Skyhawks.

Senior Nick Bona (Peabody, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) posted a team-high eight tackles (five solo), including 1.0 for a loss of three yards, and a pass breakup. Sophomore Michael Lewis (Hampton, New Hampshire/Winnacunnet) had 2.0 tackles for a loss of five, finishing with six tackles overall (two solo).

Stonehill (4-4, 3-4 NE10) now closes out its season with back to back home games, starting next Saturday when it hosts Pace University at W.B. Mason Stadium at 1 p.m. Assumption (8-0, 7-0 NE10) visits American International College next Saturday at noon.
