Skyhawks win 14th straight in series dating back to 2004 behind Foltz and Jamiel
EASTON, Mass. (September 23, 2017) – Stonehill College posted its 14th-straight victory over Saint Anselm College with a 28-14 triumph in the 13th-annual "Battle for the Ol' Bronze Hawk" on Alumni Night at Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium tonight.
Senior quarterback Matt Foltz (Mount Joy, Pennsylvania/The Hill School) and sophomore flanker Andrew Jamiel (Yarmouth, Massachusetts/Dennis-Yarmouth) accounted for all four Stonehill touchdowns on the night. Jamiel caught eight Foltz passes for a season-high 164 yards and a career-best three touchdowns, while Foltz finished 16-for-27 through the air for 240 yards and the three scoring passes, while adding a fourth touchdown on the ground. Jamiel's three touchdown receptions give him 12 for his career to move into eighth place all-time in program history, while his 1,325 career receiving yards rank seventh. Foltz inches closer to becoming just the second in program history to pass for 6,000 career yards, finishing the night with 5,819 yards, while the rushing touchdown was the 13th of his career to crack the program's all-time top ten.
Sophomore running back Brian Kearns, Jr. (North Arlington, New Jersey/Saint Joseph Regional) contributed 56 yards on 18 attempts on the ground as Stonehill compiled 329 yards of total offense for the night.
Junior lineman Anthony Marsilio (Tyngsboro, Massachusetts/Tyngsboro) led the Stonehill defense, which yielded just 244 yards, with seven tackles, including two solo, with 2.0 sacks for a loss of 15 and a forced fumble, finishing with 3.0 tackles for a loss of 16. Junior Jack Kelly (Trumbull, Connecticut/Trumbull) posted a team-high nine tackles, with five solo, and 0.5 tackles for a loss of one. Senior Nick Bona (Peabody, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) and junior Sean Cassidy (Bohemia, New York/Connetquot) each collected interceptions for the Skyhawks, with Bona adding five solo stops, while freshman Nate Bresson (Torrington, Connecticut/Torrington) chipped in with a season-high 3.0 tackles for a loss of seven.
Junior Eric Fairweather (Londonderry, New Hampshire) posted 172 yards of total offense to lead Saint Anselm as he completed 16-of-31 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown, while adding another 33 yards on 14 carries and a score. Junior Kyle Hill (Upper Marlboro, Maryland) had eight receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown, while freshman Charles Elliott (Memphis, Tennessee) rushed the ball 12 times for 45 yards.
Senior linebacker Eric Mercer (Melrose, Massachusetts) led the Saint Anselm defense with nine tackles, including three solo, with 1.0 tackles for a loss of four yards. Sophomore CJ Miller (Clinton, Maryland) also posted nine stops, with one solo, including 1.0 for a loss of four.

Stonehill jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead with touchdowns on its first two possessions of the night. Foltz hit Jamiel down the middle of the field for a 55-yard touchdown on the fourth play of the game to grab the lead after just 84-seconds. Foltz pushed the Skyhawks up by two scores as he capped a seven play, 49-yard possession with a one-yard keeper, with the key play of the drive a 30-yard pass down the far sideline for a first down on third and five from the Saint Anselm 44.
Saint Anselm cut the lead in half two and a half minutes into the second quarter when Fairweather wrapped up a 12-play, 68-yard drive that consumed 6:42 with a nine yard touchdown run up the middle. Stonehill answered that midway through the quarter as Jamiel pulled in an 11-yard touchdown toss from Foltz with 6:51 remaining and carried the 14-point lead into halftime.
Saint Anselm pulled back within a touchdown once again with a nine play, 65-yard drive on the opening possession of the second half, capped by a four yard touchdown toss by Fairweather to Hill. Stonehill, which had 238 yards of total offense at halftime, was able to muster just nine yards on nine plays in the third quarter and had two more three and outs to start the fourth before the defense provided a needed spark to help seal the win.
Bona intercepted Fairweather at the Stonehill 33 on third and ten from the Saint Anselm 43 with 8:13 remaining in the fourth. The Skyhawks capitalized with a 26-yard Foltz touchdown pass to Jamiel down the right sideline on third and ten with 3:29 remaining. The defense ended any chance of a comeback from there, pinning the Hawks back to third and 39 from their own 48, before Cassidy delivered the game-clinching interception with 1:43 to play.
Stonehill (2-2, 1-2 NE10) returns to action next Saturday night, when it visits Merrimack College for an NE10 matchup in North Andover, Massachusetts, at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks don't return home until Saturday, October 21, when they host rival Bentley University as part of Family Weekend at the College at 6 p.m. Saint Anselm (0-4, 0-3 NE10) travels to American International College next Saturday at noon.
