Foltz Earns NE10 Offensive Player of the Week Honors

EASTON, Mass. (September 5, 2017) – Stonehill College senior quarterback Matt Foltz (Mount Joy, Pennsylvania/The Hill School) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.

Foltz, who earns NE10 Player of the Week honors for the fourth time in his career, led Stonehill to a 44-28 victory at Bloomsburg University on Saturday, engineering an offense that compiled 439 yards of total offense for the afternoon. He completed 22-of-35 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns, adding a fourth touchdown on the ground, as the Skyhawks jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Foltz opened the game with a 63-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Andrew Jamiel (Yarmouth, Massachusetts/Dennis-Yarmouth) on third and eight on the opening drive of the game, before adding a 15-yard touchdown toss to sophomore Zac Pungitore (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) on the Skyhawks next possession. Foltz was 12-for-18 through the air for 174 yards and the two touchdowns in the first quarter alone as Stonehill took a 17-7 lead on its way to a 20-7 halftime advantage. His one-yard keeper for a score late in the third quarter gave the Skyhawks a 30-14 lead, before adding a clinching 26-yard touchdown pass to senior Kevin Dick (Tewksbury, Massachusetts/Tewksbury Memorial) in the fourth.

Foltz ranks third among NE10 passing leaders through the first week and second in touchdown passes. He is second for passing efficiency rating (157.1) and fourth for completion percentage (62.9%). Foltz ranks 28th nationally in Division II for pass efficiency, 30th for completion percentage and 31st for passing yardage.

Foltz became just the second student-athlete in program history to surpass 5,000 career yards on Saturday, moving past Stonehill Athletic Hall of Famer Tony Dello Iacono '95 (4,895 yards) for second all-time with 5,117 yards in 25 career games played. Foltz also ranks second all-time in program history for completions (462), attempts (763) and touchdowns responsible for (53), while ranking third for touchdown passes (41) and is on pace to set the school mark for completion percentage (60.6%), while ranking 12th for rushing touchdowns (12). The senior captain earned NE10 Academic All-Conference honors as a sophomore and junior, while being named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester to date.   

Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE10) opens its home and NE10 schedule on Saturday, when it hosts Southern Connecticut State University for its Purple & White Game at 6 p.m. The Skyhawks will "Purple Out" their uniform combination and are calling or fans to wear purple to the game at W.B. Mason Stadium.
